Just put together a 1.1Ghz Tbird/MSI KT7 Pro2/ 256SDRAM 133
in an Antec midsize case (382 I believe).

I have the 300W power supply. TBird was boxed and has its own heatsink and fan.
80mm fans one in front and one at rear.
Cyclone cooler in a pci slot
HD cooler with 3 fans in front.

Temps read in the high 40's(Centigrade) in a room with ambient temp of 73 (F).

Questions:
1- should I get rid of HD cooler?
2- Should I replace stock cpu cooler?
3- should I dump the cyclone cooler?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

1. Keep the HD coooler
2. Ditch the stock one an d get something better
3. Can't comment on the cyclone

I agree, purchase a new HSF it should improve your cooling tremendously. Also if you feel adventurous you might want to modify your case and place a fan at the top. It makes sense to draw heat out of the case where it rises.

Good Luck,

Thanks. I will go with an Alpha cooler and see how that goes.
And I may order a top plate for the case and mount a fannn there too.
If I do I think I may disregard the intake fan in the front.

If I remeber correctly the retail T-birds are coming with a Tai-Sol HSF. This same HSF has been very highly rated by many people on this forum. I myself can't express an opinion due to the fact that I have never owned one.

I would keep the HD cooler.
It pumps fresh air into your system up high (where most cases lack in airflow)

ericd the taisol heatsink that everyone's talking about is not the heatsink that comes with the retail amd processors. the one that everyone's taking about is the taisol 742092 forged heatsink here's a link to Inflow Direct Inc they carry this heatsink.

You may also want to consider some thermal paste - such as the excellent Arctic Silver, to put in between your heatsink and cpu slug. As for heatsinks...I'm not sure, but I don't think the Taisol will fit on your motherboard. A reasonably priced alternative, would be either the FOP 32 or FOP 38 by globalwin. Be warned though, the Fop38 in particular, whilst offering a good cooling solution, is a pretty damn loud fan. The Fop32 with a pack of arctic silver, would probably be a good combination, and you could expect temps to lower a fair bit.

You might even be able to get a bit of overclocking done as well

as for the cyclone cooler, it may be helping somewhat, but i had bought one wich was advertised as 42cfm, and it was really more like 12. if you need the PCI slot, it isn't worth the space it takes up, but so long as that slot is free, you may as well use it

Mike,

you are correct. The CGK742092 does not fit on the MSI K7Tpro2a series - out of the box that is. However, with a few strokes of a file to round off one of the corners (the one next to the mobo coil) you're good to go.
