When I created a partition on my drive and tried to install vista on it, it told me it only worked with "NFTS" formatting or something. So I went to gparted and "formatted" the drive to NFTS and was able to install the OS. Was wondering, what exactly does formatting mean? And why were there like 5+ choices? I mean what are the other types of formatting for.
Also, how exactly do I get rid of a partition? I created a few partitions and unfortunately 2 of them have the same OS. I was going to transfer the files in one of them and delete it but was wondering how should I do this? Should I transfer the files, then go into gparted and delete the partition or is there something wrong with this plan? I dont plan on installing an os onto the new partition, just use it has a storage space. Also do I have to "format" the drive a certain way or do anything for that matter to just have a simple "storage drive" with no os on it or should I just create another partition (after I have deleted the original) and just simply save files onto it?
