newbie needs help with bios settings

Well, I started building my first system and I am happy to report that I got a POST message without a burning smell! I am looking for some advice (or website) on how to approach the next steps including setting up the bios for my setup. I am running a Shuttle AK31 mboard and an AMD 1600+ cpu. Thanks a lot.

the manual should have most of the info you need, but most of the settings should already be where they should. basically, you can give your bios a once over and enable or disable things that you will or wont be using (onboard ausio, usb ports, etc). if you're not sure about the more technical things, then its best to leave them alone (memroy and voltage settings and stuff like that). if you wanna know anything specifically about any setting, ask away!

if u are not overclocking your cpu, then there is no reason to go into your BIOS. You should not even have to upgrade them. U just plug all ur components onto your mobo, power it up, get a POST, install ur OS (or maybe u have on installed), get to windows, upgrade drivers and ur done.
