Win2000 <---> Win98

I can ping both, see both, but can't seem to share the files.

I did set sharing so that there is a hand under those drives...

I am not sure which protocol to use.

WIN98 --- I am using File and print sharing, netbeui, client for M$ Network, microsoft family logon, ipx, tcp/ip and my NIC.

WIN2000 --- Same

Client for MS Network is my primary logon for both

When I try to access HOME(win2000), I get a password prompt or I get a message "\\HOME is not accessible... no permission to acces resources.

On my Win 2000 computer, I have not set any passwords to protect files/folders. I am stumped.

PLEASE help me get this resolved.

Thanks

on the win2k box add a user make sure its the same user name and password u use to log into the win98 machine

then it will work

so if you log into your win98 box using say

user = fred
pwd = bloggs

then goto the win2k box into control panel users and accounts add a user called fred with the password bloggs and hey presto sharing working but remembr you need to have the win2k box up and running before the win98 if you shut them down at night

I have had much the same problem with winXP and 2k. The 98 machine gets propted for a password to connect to the XP machine, but no passwords were set. The solution I found was to go to administrative settings/security settings and add anonymous logins to the everyone group. that cleared it right up. Of course it's a security hit, but if you're only connected to your win 98 computer sans cable modem/DSL I see no problems.

Unless the Win98 box gets a virus that uses the anon access to infect the W2K box.

another question...

at login on the 98 box, it asks me to enter a domain name.

I don't use a domain, just a workgroup. How do I rid of that login option in the win98 box?

I believe that there is a check box in the properties of Client for Microsoft Networks that sysy log onto a winNT domain. uncheck that and you should lose the domain prompt.
