Hi all, I've never actually overclocked before (I've tried, and failed)

Right now I'm running:
ThunderBird 850 (w/ Retail HSF and that damn thermal pad too )
Asus A7V
256MB of VC133 CL3 (seemed like a good idea at the time)
one intake fan in the front of the case
one exhaust fan at the back that's really only half working (not enough opening on the back for air to come out)

I have a tube of AS2 coming in the mail soon with a new Gainward GF2 Pro/450
(the GF2 is my reason for overclocking as my vid card will no longer be the bottleneck, I'm runnin a TNT2 Ultra right now )

What I'm really asking is, where do I start?

I have A7V revision 1002 and I'm running BIOS 1009 right now.... I have the board with the dip switches too.....

Any A7V OC'ers out there wanna share there strategys and results?

Thanks in Advance,
Scott Silverman:frown:

Don't forget to download a program, such as Motherboard Monitor-5 to monitor the temps.

download the latest AsusProbe and update your BIOS..

and go to the link suggested by weplum
or you might want to check Anand's o/c guide Here

hope this helps

oh yeah don't forget to get a better HSF..
if u don't want to get a new HSF just lap your HSF(sanding the bottom of your heatsink to make it smoother..and transfer heat a lot better..)

it might help w/ casual o/c ing (1GHz to 1,2GHz) but that won't help w/ intensive o/c ing
such as 1G to 1,6G
-and one more thing to remember increase your CPU clock one step at the time..you might damage your CPU or burn it by leaping to a clockspeed that are waay higher than your default clockspeed e.g. 850
to 1130.. just do it one step at a time and check the stability of your system by running Prime95 or benchies such as 3DMark2K1 in loop mode.. if it's stable incerease the clockspeed one more step. and so on....

good luck on your OverClocking

whoops almost forgot don't forget about your PSU..
it could limit your overclocking..
