Ok here goes...

I'm formatting a slave drive in win2K with NTFS file system. I'm just mot entirely sure what the Enable compression option entails exactly...

Just need a nudge in the right direction as to what its purpose is.

Compression will basically compress everything on your drive, maximizing space. Do not do it if you expect good performance though. It is for people with smaller capacity hard drives. It will give you lots of drive space at the cost of performance. All applications will run slower and it will take longer to pull up files.

It can about 2x your drive (well double-ish) - depends what size HD you've got and whether you depend on it being quick. Often used in buisnisses .

If in doubt, you should be able to compress the drive at a later point in time...
