I have an older system, with a PII 350 Slot 1. Right now I have it setup at 100fsb X 8. I get no errors, but how can I tell wether I am actually overclocking? I have MBM and mu temp is setting right at 14 - 15. Any advice would be great. Thanx.
The multiplier is locked (the X value) so no matter what it defaults to 3.5x so no, you're not overclocking. The only way you can make it run faster is to change the fsb.
And expecting 800Mhz from it is far too much, maybe 100Mhz more or so if your mobo supports options above 100Mhz.
More info about the board, cooling etc. would allow us to help you better.
Intel chips multipliers are locked so u cant oc that way. Get some PC133 and see if u can adjust fsb. You might want to upgrade your CPU to something newer. Slot 1 is dead! You can get a pretty cool 1.3 ghz celeron and I think up to 1.4 ghz pentium 3 running on a convertor + slocket.
Come on, bro! Your overclock question would have been relevant in 1998 but that's just an ancient setup by today's standards. You are completely wasting your time overclocking. Since you live in Sherman, just head on down to the Dallas Fry's Electronics (off of 635 several miles east of 75) and pick up a cheap Athlon mobo plus XP 2000+ CPU combo. I think they have a deal with ECS mobo and Athlon 2100+ for $79! I understand finances may be an issue but most computer enthusiasts can scrape together that much. It will give your system a SERIOUS upgrade. Although if you are overlclocking for fun and to learn, that's okay...just might want to try a newer setup that will be worth your while to overclock.
