Computer was feeling a little warm so I downloaded Hmonitor because I was curious what the temperature was. Now I'm a complete newbie so I have no idea what is normal or not, but it says that the mainboard is running at 61C and is in red, is this something I should be worried about? The default settings for Hmonitor have it go red with anything over 50C.

Well...my motherboard is at 25C when i'm not playing any game. I think it depend on you cpu and mobo type.

Yes you should worry. A processor can handle high temps like 60, but a motherboard cannot. I've destroyed 2 motherboards that ran at about that temperature ~60C. Another case fan should do nicely. I have 2 case fans (on the back) and my motherboard is 46C at all times (CPU is always running 100%).

61C is too hot, though if it's not being at all unstable... Also its common for these monitoring programs to read the wrong sensor, or read the right one wrongly. Try using the comp for a wheile, then reboot and go into the BIOS and read the temps from there.

This is kind of interesting, as I just built a new system and put it into a new desk, and realized (after not seeing earlier) that new desk without ventilation equals well over 60 degrees Celsius. I've been benchmarking it today and it's performed fine (no crashes), but I don't overclock. I'll take the back off the desk tomorrow to get some airflow, but I think you can run a PC fine at 60 for a good while, as long as you're not overworking it.

Ok, I downloaded speedfan and it too says 60 degrees. I don't know how long my comp has been going at this temperature, could be only days could be months, but I do know that its been stable and I haven't had any problems with it.

I like the idea of putting on another fan, but I have no idea where it would go. Could I just put one in the CPU itself? Its a store bought machine, very basic computer case, and theres no place to put a fan that blew air from inside the case to outside on the front or the back. The front is just one solid piece of plastic, and the back has no opening that could fit a fan unless I cut the metal.

i would sugest you remove one or both of the case side and see if that helps till you deceide what to do.

you may want to look at getting a new case with more fans already installed.
