Thanks agio, let me rephrase. Comparing the two brands in a 2x120 (doubled) your choice would be the themochill? I may still go with the 4x120 as my case has plenty of room if I chose to mount in the interior but at the moment my rads are in a closet.

as marci stated, he dares you to try to stress a 120x3 unless your on a 270W TEC.

So i honestly dont see the reason of you going dual 120x2.

Also:
120x2 > 120x1 + 120x1

120x3 > 120x2 + 120x1

so im assuming: 120x4 > 120x2 + 120x2 <--- not many tests have been done because 120x4 was introduced middle of last yr? <not too sure on this dont quote me> i only heard about them middle of last year. Also its hella hard to mount that sucker. :\ 120x3 is a PITA alone. Not many cases can sport this even, without losing a lot of real estate.

can i ask why you want a 4x120 setup?? do you have intensions of running it passively?

First Thanks for the excellent info.

I did a search on the forums and didn't find anything specific on suggested cases for this though. Your two pics look to me to be similar to Lian-Li full server (wheels?) or full size tower. I am just starting to sketch out a new system to move to water as I finally upgrade to a gaming-only additional rig (upgrade includes water SLI as you show). I'm still a few months and $$$ away but i want to take my time and I'm kinda holding off for a few new gfx/processsor releases.

Until then can you point me in the right direction to start researching case-fit/waterkit combo's strictly regards fitting it all in. I'm leaning towards all internal for now but open to best performance options.

The two cases i have shown in this guide are the CM Stacker, and TT Armor.

Other great cases include the Silverstone TJ-09 TJ-07

Lian Li's. hmmmmm i should include a radiator mount on this guide. Thanks for the extra insight. I'll start on it in a little bit.

Marci = owner of thermochill and also one of the foremost watercooling guru's over at xtremesystems.org He conducted a very through test on rads where the whole forum threw tests for him to run on all the rads he was conducting tests on.

Unless u intend to add the HDs and dual 8800GTX to the loop, you wont stress a 120x3
therochill. If your still insisant on cooling, then id get a 120x3 for the cpu ram nb, and then add a 120x2 for your gfx cards on a single loop dual pump layout.

PM me when it gets close to your parts and date on when your going to buy. I'll point you in the right direction in parts and layout when that comes.

But your layout will be EXPENSIVE! the thermochil rads alone arent cheap.

Thanks again, Yep, Thermochill is a few bux more but that is not my biggest concern. The thermo pa vs the Danger Den Black Ice GTX Xtreme as to which is the better rad for lower rpm fans. As to exactly how the loop will be run I'll be experimenting with a number of different configs. The only thing I can say for sure is multi-pump, multi-rad, multi-block. Oh yeah, and it won't be cheap.

I think I've settled on a motherboard to start this project.

Does anyone have experience with what to do with existing heatpipes for the NB/SB? I know I can get blocks for them but what do you do with the pipes and fins over the mosfets etc? Do you try to modify them or take/cut them off to make way for the NB/SB waterblock?

I've settled on the ASUS P5N32-E SLI Plus which has those heatpipes running from the NB/SB to the mosfets.

Thanks for any advice

Well I'm air cooled to the max, but I must give this a big STICKY for when I build my next rig (quad core 65nm AMD anyone?) because I will be going with liquid cooling then. In case I forgot, STICKY!

Your welcome, for the curious they were typos or grammatical not technos. My grammar is not what it should be but I am glad to have been of any little help.

Aigomorla, This is a needed addition to any tech site and I think you have done a beautiful job. As the technologies advavce I'm sure you will keep us updated,
Thanks for your efforts and wisdoms and opinions,

i guess because they realize if its going to be a part of there forums, they want one as perfect as possible.

It might also be because when you google newbies guide to watercooling, my post is the first hit!

Anyhow, edits arent a big thing, nothing except god was made correctly on the first try.

Even then some people still disgree with this statement.

Anyhow final edits have been made. I may decide to drop in a temp log on my performance setup at 3.08ghz. But im in the middle of debating on picking up a E6600 to see how far i can push that baby.

Havent found a decient reason besides "cuz everyone has it" to do that upgrade tho. However i think it would be nice to show a full performance setup on a C2D, since a lot of people are on that platform now.

This is a great guide. I am planning on doing WC for my next build over the next few weeks and this guide is the first thing I ever really read on watercooling. Since then I have spent a lot of time here

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=70&order=desc

learning as much as I possibly can. I have a question about your fans. How many do you have running in your system. I see that you have them on the radiator for both machines but it was not obvious to me how many you have in each system besides those. I think I see an exhaust fan under the powersupply on one of your machines but the other I I can't tell. I only ask as I am wondering how many fans I will need.

I plan to use this case:

http://www.mountainmods.com/product_info.php?cPath=21_32&products_id=74

U2-UFO from mountain mods which has room for 9 120 fans. I realize 3 will go for the Thermochill 120.3 radiator which leaves 6 120's open. Do I really need that many when Watercooling? I was planning on using Yate Loon D12SL-12's maybe mixed in with one or 2 D12SM-12. I glanced briefly at a thread at xtreme in aircooled put up today that reviews 120 fans and included data for WC setups. I will have to go through the data but just wanted to know what your take was. My other main parts so far will be.

Radiator: thermoChill PA 120.3
D-TEK FuZion Universal CPU Waterblock
Pump: Laing DDC w/ Petra'sTech DDCT-01 Top Combo
GPU Cooler: EK-FC8800GTS Full Cover (I am still wondering if this is overkill as its $100 and I won't be able to use it when I upgrade)

Thanks for the nice guide! It has gotten me started And just one humble piece of advice. I would put at the bottom of your list links to other WC info sites. Your guide is great and it gets people going and sooner or later people should make their way to the Liquid Cooling forum at XtremeSystems for all the info they could ever want.

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=70

maybe there are other sites too that I am not aware of but you are for detailed WC info.
