I just watched the video on newegg in regards to the SB and MB. Why does it seem that Intel took something that used to be fun, creative, and an adventure (Overclocking) and made it into a money making scheme...(and yes I realize they did this a few generations ago..but now they just throw it in your face...OMG "K means unlocked!"

For motherboards, BIOS flashing, overclocking, ease of use, forum support, etc, both Asus and Gigabyte > MSI. I would even add EVGA to this list. I haven't had a chance to use S1155 boards yet, but on S1156 MSI boards you couldn't even flash the BIOS in Windows. Completely unacceptable.

The GD65 has less power phases than the $10 more expensive Asus P8P67 board and the cheaper Gigabyte UD3P board. You also get advanced replacement with Asus for the first year of warranty and dual-BIOS chips on Gigabyte in-case you brick one of them flashing.

Hey! WTF?! Anandtech reviews stated that these chips are great overclockers, but newegg's reviews state that the CANNOT be overclocked short of that "boost" option provided by intel. Apparently they are LOCKED and cannot be manually overclocked at all!

Maybe it was in reference to the locked chips...because I watched one of their vids with intel in regards to the new chips/chipsets and they kept stressing the fact that the K version was unlocked for the 'enthusiasts'..over and over and over. I wasn't making it up

If you go to newegg, you will see some reviews under one of the cpus... just click on the socket type for sandy bridge...

you are trusting some retards on newegg, who can't even have the CPU from newegg yet(since they didnt starting selling till yesterday around midnight Central) over anandtech and other tech sites reviews?

have fun with that

Well... It's 3 people! They couldnt have all decided to leave negative reviews at once...

MicroCenter only had 20 CPUs per store so don't go out of your way unless you know they have any...unlikely as Houston sold out instantly. I ordered one online for pick up and the order was accepted but 30 minutes later when I arrived they had none. Evidently ordering did not reserve it. I won't be back.......ever.

That sounds highly questionable (as is usually the case with some NE reviews). I can put three good reviews up if I saw fit, so that's irrelevant.

All "k" sandy bridge chips feature unlocked multipliers and you overclock via that method. BLCK speed barely moves an inch, but that's not what you're going for. If your K chip multi doesn't unlock, something went wrong.

There are a few reviews posted by some fools here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115074. Of course, these are actually about the 2400, which is locked.

Yes, those are the ones I was talking about. Didnt know about that whole "K" thing. But then... The K ones are more expensive!

But the thing is... since when do we have to pay extra for a CPU that can be overclocked? Literally every single intel CPU that I've seen within the last 5-7 years had the optioon of being overclocked, if only a little... That's "manually" overclocked, not through a program of some sort.

Is intel changing their stance on overcloking?

The AnandTech article covers all this, read pages 2-3.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/4083/...-core-i7-2600k-i5-2500k-core-i3-2100-tested/2
"What you will see more of this time around are letter suffixes following the four digit model number. K means what it did last time: a fully multiplier unlocked part (similar to AMD’s Black Edition). The K-series SKUs are even more important this time around as some Sandy Bridge CPUs will ship fully locked, as in they cannot be overclocked at all (more on this later). ..."

Better read up: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4083/...-core-i7-2600k-i5-2500k-core-i3-2100-tested/3.

Even the 2400 can be overclocked, but only 400MHz.

Went for the Gigabyte/2500K combo and added 8GB of RAM and a 6850 for a complete upgrade.
Time to retire the E6750/4GB/8600GTS combo.
It would be a better deal if I had any interest at all in playing Civilization V!
