Newegg Athlon Xp Refurbs... Better Hurry!!!

I got 5 thunderbirds and 1 athlon xp 1700. The 1700 was retail (or at least in retail box with the heatsink) and is working fine. 4 of the 5 thunderbirds posted no problems, the only one I had any problem with was one that had a chipped core. I didn't even test it, that chip is going right back to newegg, where they will refund my return shipping costs and either give me another one or give me my money back.

Chipped cores are suck.

when i sent back a new processor to them, no boot and looked like it might have been used, they didnt pay shipping :disgust:

well now i have to ship back this refurb cd-rw drive i bought last week that's door wont open even with the paper clip in the emergency eject hole.

i've bought alot of refurb stuff from newegg, its hit n miss. ex: the refurb abit mobo im using right now has usb problems and the socket lever doesnt release my processor.

at newegg if you rma a product and buy anything the csr said no restocking fee....I was going to return a mobo and get a new one...and said I would reorder a product so he said he would do the rma and put a note there would be no restocking fee...I did not even have to place the order with him....

I got mine they look new-I saved alot more than $20 apiece on mine-I think closer to $40-$60 on the athlon and the xp. Fedex is currently shipping me 17 orders from newegg all refurb stuff. >>



What CPUs did you order? I thought the refurb XP 1700+ was $100 + shipping ~$107? According to pricewatch, this CPU was ~$120 shipped at the time.

I got 2 in today-a 1 gig and a 1.2 both 266fsb , There is no shipping charges on like 99 1/2 % of refurb items from newegg except case's, The 1.2 looks is a AYHJA that I think is the 1 everyone wants?-its unlocked and looks new-the 1.0 is a ASHHA and looks locked-is there any unlocked 1.0??-oo well good for mom. The xp should be here tomorrow-and a couple durons after that. I got that free gift added to my order status today-kinda cool to see a item in there with price of $0.00

I personally owned a AYHJA 1G T-bird, those rocks....I easily get a 50% oc without having to adjust anything......

I picked up a P4 1.5 for a hundred bucks. Also an 845 SDR board. THe board came dead, it's BIOS must have been flashed WAYYYYYY wrong, because it will not even flash back to the correct one. THe proc, however was a retail box....

ASHHA sux. There isn't too much info on these, most of its bad. I got one from newegg(1.13GHz) would only do 1.26GHz.

The other one, AYHJA, is a keeper.

Interestingly enough, the refurb 1600+ posted, but then I switched the graphics card from a Rage 128 to a Radeon 7500 (both AGP) and there was no video. So I switched back to the Rage 128 and still no video. What is up with that? Can't imagine what could have gone wrong with the video cards (and I have a pretty wild imagination).

Got my celery 1.1 ghz last Friday and installed it today and works great so far. It was a Retail ver, but it was installed once at least, as I have to clean the core of residue from the HSF. Good deal none the less.

Simply by booting into windows does not mean you have a CPU good.
Just like how flacky memory will ruin your day, CPU's have internal memory (cache),
which can get flacky, and will cause all sorts of intermittant problems.
Cache is also one of the internal CPU parts that can get damaged from overclocking.
So some of these may have been used and abused before. Kind of like buying an
engine for your car that the previous guy ran at 9000rpm for hours, instead of the
rated 3500rpm. Still, I keep looking for the refurbs to come back so I can get one!
It's just a chance you should know you are taking.

Many times refurbs are just returns from idiots that don't know how to setup a PC.
One new product may be defective, so they return everything and try again.
