Yeah, build my older system with the original CM 690, nice case - good layout... and a month later, they released the improved "II" withe the SATA dock and improved FP layout.

I really wish they had created a "III" with USB 3.0 ports and an additional dock, ended up getting the ThermalTake case that had a deal a couple of months ago, and very happy with that one for my newest build.

Still, the CM690 is a classic, and very nicely built. Can't really go wrong with that.

Anybody that needs front USB 3.0 ports, NewEgg, had the Biostar bracket which is actually a 3.5" bracket (not 2.5" as in the description) - very solid and it appears some get ASUS-branded brackets, so it seems that this is identical to the ones ASUS provides. The 19-pin header worked on my newer ASUS motherboard.

You can buy a replacement top panel for the 690 II ADV at Coolermaster's website. It has 2x USB 2.0 and 2x USB 3.0 ports on it they got rid of the ESATA port. I bought one to upgrade my case, it was $17 + $12 for shipping. Ordered it on a Sunday got it Thursday.

1 x CM 690 II Advance USB 3.0 I/O Top Panel - OEM Package (621027040-GP) = $16.99
------------------------------------------------------
UPS (1 x 3lbs) (UPS Ground): $11.84
Sub-Total: $16.99
Total: $28.83

I have a link but their site is down for Maintenance

Link wasn't working for me. Here it is again: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119216

Edit: mine is working either. Can just search for: "COOLER MASTER RC-692-KKN2 CM690 II"

Someone mentioned on SD that there may be two rebates instead of one.

Not sure if there will be two UPC or not but thought it was worth mentioning here. I'm in for one either way. Thanks

How does this compare to the Antec Three Hundred? Does anyone happen to have both?

The Three Hundred has the crappy old-style front-to-back 3.5" drive bays, whereas the CM 690 II has the sideways bays with nice mounting brackets.

Also, the CM 690 II is painted on the interior, and overall a very solid case.

The Antec has the cooling fan at the top, which the CM 690 II doesn't...

...and of course, the CM 690 II has the "drive dock" build into the top, which is pretty nice to have.

One correction - the CM has a 140mm top fan.

Overall, it's no comparison. The 690 is more of a competitor to the Antec 900/902 than it is the 300. It's a much higher level case than the 300.

That being said, I'm still not sold on the sideways drive mounts - seems to really block air flow front to back.

Not like the 690 doesn't have enough other vent holes in it

I bought the CM 690II for $40 after rebate during last Black Friday. This is pretty much the perfect case. The drive dock works great with SSD and HDD archives and backups. Nice and roomy, comfortably fits my Hyper 212 EVO, great airflow and easy mounting. The only thing missing is some handles at the top to better facilitate carrying.

Nice case and all but would love to see coolermaster start using filters for the side ports on all their cases.

I agree you can also buy fan filters which are like 2-3 bucks not a huge deal!

Thanks OP, I'm in for 1 for my new build, now I only need a mb and processor, and unfortunately I do not live near a microcenter.

FWIW, and I don't know if this could be considered a real apples-to-apples comparison, I have a Lian Li case that has the ability to swivel the drive rack between front to back and side like the CM. There was absolutely zero difference in temps between the two orientations. I know it's not the same case, but looking over the 690's HDD area, it appears to me that it's pretty similar in terms of air pathing over the drives in the sideways orientation. Take that how you will, but I wouldn't let that be a deal breaker for you.

Thanks for the deal OP. Always liked these and now might be a good time to snag one.

Hey, thanks for the info. The new approach to drive bay orientation sure looks more convenient, so if it doesn't in fact block airflow, it's a win-win.
