Newegg.com censors bad reviews

Not really a hot deal, but I look at a lot of reviews to tell if something is hot or not. Almost every piece of crap that I bother to do a bad review gets rejected. I do not curse and try to list some positive stuff...so just beware of the censors.

weren't you suspicious when you started seeing that disclaimer pop up a couple years ago?
something to the effect, of we are not a rating board, do not use this as your only way to decide on a product, blah blah blah....

They still have an awesome replacement policy, and consistently in the best price range too.

well as most statisticians would tell you... most people who bother to comment are more likely to be commenting because they feel strongly about it. most people who want to comment negatively would be more likely to comment. i mean i'm sure 99% of neweggs customers are very satisfied, but its much less likely they'd bother commenting than the negative ones.

i suppose it still isnt good that they censor stuff, but you can see where if they didnt a disaproportionate number of comments woul dbe negative

Newegg has been doing this forever. Only glowing reviews pass muster. I still like Newegg because while it's no longer the cheapest it is competitive on most items. I still do shop around. Newegg also has a great return program on most items. So it gives some peace of mind. One other thing that's great is the search engine on Newegg's website.

I really like Newegg, but I worry that they are heading downhill. Not just for this reason, but a lot of negative posts have been made here lately. I remember the old school places like blacklabmicro, spartantech, neutron, webuildpcs.com and other once promising vendors that eventually faded out of existence. These places were inexpensive and easy to deal with at one point in time and then went downhill fast. I hope that Newegg doesn't head that way as well.

If you read enough of the reviews you will see that some have found a way to post negative ones - just give it a 5 star rating but then tell the truth in your comments.

Newegg going downhill? Doesn't look like it to me.
First off, quite often they charge a good amount of shipping cost. I think there's a lot of profit in that.
Then, they stopped extended warranties. I used them all the time, dirt cheap for a year of warranty. Have sent back stuff that their warranty covered, and there's no way this could be economical at the low price they used to charge.
Lastly, their prices are not always the lowest, and often just average. They don't need to compete on price too much because they have a good rep.

In summary, I think they're solid, and will be around for a while yet.

I bet I used to do 15000 a year at newegg but I think I have only about 4000 to this point and find myself on chiefvalue, zipzoomfly and the like.

Newegg rocks as far as customer service goes and that is huge with computer stuff...but I do think they are going down hill. You can tell the bean counters are starting to get more influence for sure.

Im pretty sure that chiefvalue IS newegg, just different warehouse. Just as dual branding works well for General Motors, majority of ppl will not notice.

I never place a great deal of value on the review that a vendor elects to show. I also check out www.resellerratings.com.

Every company makes mistakes and how well a company deals with a mistake is also a measure of how good a company is. This is where I find resellerratings handy.

When I shopped at Newegg in '98 shipping was not cheap and prices were not the best. Good, but not the best. They were however the best place to go for 1-stop shopping. I still miss the original Web site.. Easier to navigate and faster load imo..

As far as going downhill, how much butter could they have gotten? I'd say they were close to the top so a downward trend is not unusual. I just hope it doesn't go too far.

YEAH THIS DEAL IS HOT! I'LL TAKE 7 AS WELL!! EDIT: I'll take two sticks of butter!

funny.

Also funny how quite a few in the community are getting tired of Newegg as Newegg grows into a bigger store. Gone are the days of buy more save more deals and really fast turnarounds with great customer service and the reviews with 1 stars! But, it is nice to go back to Memory Ln. just for a bit only to be felt like u've been beaten with a wiffle ball bat once u turn around and see Newegg looking like a Best Buy.

Newegg is a business and acts like such. They've realized it's more profitable to lose the few true hardware geeks to pick up so much more in general audience. Remember when Dell's were awesome; that's not the case anymore but they're doing just fine. Newegg will survive without us that remember when their prices were more inline (and even below) with most online retailers.

Wow, there was Newegg back in 1998? The web site says it was founded in 2001 and that's when I first heard about it.

the rise of newegg on this forum as I remember it was the 12x, 16x days of the cheap Lite-on CDRWs -- it was a hot deal everyday I swear....

Newegg used to be the one and only website for cheap tech products for me. It's sad that it's no longer what it used to be. Zipzoomfly is getting my business lately. The 2nd day free shipping is what's doing it for me.
