Well, if you've seen the advertisements for Newegg in PC Magazine, you should realize why your prices are higher. A 2 page full spread ad in PC Magazine probably isn't that cheap. Considering most people already know about them from word of mouth, they should cut back on advertising and use that money to lower their prices and shipping.

Newegg is approximately 4 years old....so I'm intrigued how you would have shopped there in 1998.

He might be talking about way back when Newegg sold computer parts through their mail-order catalog.

it's obvious, more people are likely to rate an item if they have a bad experience with it, than all those people who have had a good experience with the item.

if newegg didn't censor them, it would leave about half the reviews with peoples bad experiences, and this might not always be down to the product, it could be down to the buyer's expectations.

And you are basing your assumptions on what exactly? Do you mean to tell me Newegg is censoring half of the customer reviews? Also, what is wrong with expecting the product to be as good as advertised?

Newegg was "mwave.com" way back when, that's where it all started.

As far as shipping, Newegg now has East Coast warehouse (and possibly others) so they are saving on shipping now (and we get stuff faster too).

I agree, Newegg has bloated, but its still good. I do miss the good old days of refurb deals.

Newegg had a simple plan in the begining to offer low but fair prices and be the best in the market at customer service. They knew what they were doing as they have built a great business.
When they became established they found they could sweeten their profit pot - Human nature. Being in tighter times now they needed to take measures to keep the old pot as sweet. Still a solid company and I will continue to do business with them although have been disappointed with them a couple of times.

It doesn't cost $10 to ship a freaking mouse pad and a tube of AS5.

Well, since everything goes FedEx, it does cost at least $4-something for a minimum shipment, but yes I know what you are talking about. The "stacking shipping cost" blows. Places like SVC.com are great values if you buy more than one item since they somehow figure out a "shipping per order" instead of a "shipping per item." Let's say you buy a HSF, two fans, some AS3, fancy finger guards and some cold cathodes to pimp out your rig. Shipping at SVC would be something like $7 while shipping at Newegg would be closer to $22.

Agreed I just recently got whored by their shipping ($20 for two fans an MP3 player and a compact flash card). They used to do a shipping per order thing in the past, but that's gone now. In their defense the fans I ordered where shipped from their NJ warehouse, but still, $10 to ship two fans?

I agree with the rest here, that they no longer have to be competitive by offering the best prices/honesty anymore... sad.

The censoring of reviews is just downright wrong no matter how you look it. When I look for negative reviews I look for a common problem among them to help isolate issues with the product.

Yes, I've noticed that myself. It's not like I rant and rave when giving something a negative review.

So you're saying that they have nothing to do with the current mwave.com?

I'm surprised at the amount of somewhat negative reviews towards newegg.com. Never had issues with them (yet).

I had a problem with a manufacturor mail-in rebate once and needed a UPC number off the product. Rather than give me the number (it would be hard to locate), they just gave me the rebate themselves.

I once had to return RAM past the 30 day period. Rather than go through the manufacturor (wanted different ram anyways), I took a chance and gave them a call to see if they would let me. They let me return it for a full refund, no restocking fee either.

No hassles with anyone. Shipping is always quick and they always update you with emails. So far, I would recommend them without hesitation.

Edit: Their prices are not always the lowest, but very competitive for the majority of their products.

DECLINED REVIEW
========================================================
I have to write carefully here...if you're into looks buy this case. If that's not too important then...
Pros: Looks, Good cooling
Cons: Try removing your power suply when the motherboard is installed - nearly impossible, very little working room - change your hard drive take out your video card, extremely loud fans - necessitates buying a fan controller or new fans - I bought an Aerogate 3 because it does not have any dials (case has a door).
If stolen would I buy this case again? No!!!!!
Reason for a 3? I am a computer enthusiast that upgrade evey six months. I have small to average hands and I have great difficulty getting to the motherboard and drives.

Similar experience here -- I had a very bad support experience with some gear I bought from them (koffNetgear). After I lost patience after giving the manufacturer a chance to rectify the situation, I explained the situation to NewEgg. They agreed to refund my purchase, which consisted of three separate opened items, and waived the restocking fee. That's attention to customer satisfaction, which is very important to me. On the whole, their prices are pretty competitive, and they ship quickly (especially when you pay their "rush order" fee, which is at least cheap). So they don't want negative comments on their site? That's not newsworthy to me.

But negative comments on items that someone is interested in buying? This may sound retarded being the internet and all, but I believe if they have postable reviews, the potential buyers have the right (haha) to know if someone dislikes an item as much as they have the right to know if someone likes an item in what ways.

I mean I want to know the good and bad. Especially the bad because either they're technical or personal faults that people don't like.

Yeah, I bought some "Ridata 8X" DVD media that others reported as compatible with the NEC 2510A - so I bought it. I've tried every firmware available and it only burns @ 4X.

I posted- on the NewEgg Reviews- this media...RidataG03 will only burn at 4X and it never made the reviews.

It is good DVD+R media, but I got suckered into to the Newegg reviews about how it burned at 8X and Blah, Blah, Blah...

Not trying to TC but Hey Newegg needs a reality check from time to time, thanks OP

Cheap0 & Frown66:
I don't think anyone here is arguing that Newegg's RMA service is anything but top notch (I too am currently dealing with an RMA with them). The real issue is, as the OP pointed out, they are censoring bad reviews. While this may seem like a small deal considering their otherwise excellent service, it shows that they are starting to go down the slippery slope. If they don't want bad reviews detracting from the likelihood that someone will buy the product, then they should not offer the option to have reviews at all. Editing out the bad is just plain wrong, and I'll give the OP credit for posting this issue in Hot Deals as this does effect the people who come here and shop Newegg. I give Amazon credit for allowing the reviews that they have up. If Newegg is going to censor reviews the way they are doing, then they should just get rid of the whole system.

I completely understand where you're coming from and agree with you. My post wasn't dealing with the original poster's comment (I know, a bit of a threadjack) but in response to a lot of replies about Newegg in general getting worse. I didn't get that feeling so I wanted to speak up.

In response to the original post, their selective reader reviews is a suspicious, but I don't think too much into it. Its like walking into a store which has a wall displaying customer letters praising them or the products they sell. I haven't seen any physical store put up reviews that bash them or even slightly negative in nature. I know this is not a fair comparison as a webpage has more "space" than a store wall, but anyway, just trying to make a point. Amazon has set the bar high (or maybe they just hate moderating) by allowing just about any review go through. They do offer the disclaimer not to use *their* customer feedback as means of purchase, but in reality, it probably affects many buyer's purchases. Its tricky.

I've never relied on feedback from one site alone to determine my purchases, but its a good thing this is brought up. I just didn't agree with Newegg going downhill, not yet at least.

Anyways, I RMA'd my twinmos value ram (after the 30 days passed) for OCZ gold VX ram by only paying the difference in price between the two. Awesome!

There are many other great online places to go too: Monarchcomputers.com, jab-tech.com, zipzoomfly.com, chiefvalue.com (heh) to name a few.

Actually, Newegg is Chinese owned.

Owned by China, owned by Chinese immigrants, or owned by Chinese-Americans?

Oh an btw, NewEgg is privately owned so they can censor their reviews if they want..

I too have had problems posting reviews on Newegg for an item I purchased. I tried 3 times to post an incompatibility issue with my burner (Sony DRU-510A) and the new dye used on the Ritek G05. After 3 tries I gave up. I posted an honest assessment of the situatio on Resellerratings and guess what - I received a call a few days later from the company. Newegg unilaterally decided (without me asking) to refund the media cost AND shipping. I was very impressed. I had written off the $$$ for the media. My view of the company change significantly not becasue of the refund but because they did all this without a request from me. They trully do see me as a valuable customer.

On the other hand we have vendors like Staples.com. I bought an item on-line that had to be shipped from the warehouse via UPS. The scheduled day of delivery comes and goes ... I receive nothing. I call Staples and am told that the item was returned to the warehouse and they cannot tell me why. I am credited for the purchase BUT all this was done without telling me. I have an oreder confirmation telling me that my item has shipped and to expect it a certain day. Of course, their promises mean nothing.

I have been impressed with Newegg for years and now even more so. Now if they could only "fix" their feedback system so that we could inform each other with reviews that more accurately reflect the products being sold then that would be something ...

Give me a break. I've used both NewEgg and MWave for many years, and they have always been two different companies.

Now that NewEgg has started shipping from the Ingram Micro warehouse here in Memphis, Tennessians have to pay sales tax. But I'll admit it's hard to find a better price from a reputable company, even after sometimes bloated shipping and sales tax.

I'll definately jump on some shares when they go public.....
