Sigh.

I place an order for an IWILL mobo and a 1 gig athlon. Shipping, 12.95
Add a fan/heatsink for 6 bucks. Shipping goes to 16.95??!?!?

THEN

I place order for same mobo and duron retail processor. Shipping 6 bucks.
Change the order to duron OEM...shipping 12.95?!?!?!?!

These orders have the same weight and size, and the only thing that changes is the profit margin for newegg.

Don't get me wrong, I will probably still order from them. It just pisses me off to get raped for pure profit disquised as shipping charges.

Grrrrr.

Try it yourself and post the price changes. Wish i could call newegg and yell at them personally.

There has been 2 or 3 threads in General Hardware in the last couple of days about this if you want to go read them.

Newegg, like many other places, are playing the Pricewatch game. They post prices on some items at and sometimes below cost so their listing shows higher on a Pricewatch search. They make their profit on their 'handling' charge. Look at most any vendor that is near the top of a Pricewatch search and you'll see that they rape you on shipping.

<< Newegg is still cheap and has great service. >>

They ship DAMN fast! Between them and Crucial, I've ordered stuff one day and it's been on my porch within 48hrs of the order (and I don't upgrade the shipping).

Newegg does have exceptionally high shipping rates, however after all is said and done the total cost ends up being lower. I remember ordering my PC back in June, a computer that would cost me 650$+ everywhere else went for 575$ after shipping at newegg. Newegg has been my king for the last year, but I think outpost.com is starting to heat up as well. I placed an order @ 11:36 EST time on Friday and it arrived 12:05 Pacific time the next day. Granted I upgraded ot overnight shipping, but that was because ground/2day is only 2$ cheaper

Yeah, their S/H seem kinda high. But it still seems cheaper than buying from most other vendors, the products I've bought from them work as advertised, and they ship as fast as anyone I've dealt with. I'm not married to those guys, but it'll take more than reasonable S/H for me to switch to another vendor.

I like their method along with their prices and SERVICE!!!! They also ship FedEx not UPS.

I dont feel pressured to order things together just to save a few cents on shipping. Sometimes prices drop so quickly you even save more. I do think they hurt themselves more with the small items than they eventually make.

Noticed the same thing myself. Usually go to MWAVE.COM and check their prices too as they seem to have more realistic shipping charges.

You guys need to stop complaining like a bunch of whining babies. The total price ends up being cheaper than most other companies out there. I would gladly pay an extra $4 (which would still make the total cost of the order cheaper than every one else).

NewEggs FAST shipping and excellent customer service make up for it

I've stopped shopping there after being told on Monday morning that even if I payed for overnight shipping. I wouldn't have it by Wednesday!!! Plus the girl was so "wishy-washy" it scared me. :Q

I then called MWave.com, and was told by a very cool, and compitent guy that if I called by nnon, and payed for 2 day shipping that I'd have it by Wednesday. He gave his name, and his word. So I not only payed less in the end, but got it on time.

MWave has better customer service, quicker shipping, prices that are more then fair, and better warranties on there OEM CPU's (full year) then any other place I've dealt with. Their killer reseller ratings, and the fact they've been around longer only help to solidify them getting my business.

Cheaper is not always better.

I bought a mobo (Epox 8K7A), CPU (1.2 gig Bird 266FSB) combo (free cooler) that was pre-tested, and a GF2 Ultra from MWave. Since I decided on the vid card later, I needed it fast. In the end. I only paid about $30 more total, and had I ordered the card at the same time. It would have been a smaller difference. So in the end. I was assured a working mobo/CPU (I've had to RMA about 3-4 mobo's, so it matters a lot to me anyway), got a free cooler which is still in use, and a full year warranty on the whole deal for a few more dollars. Seems well worth it to me, just from the horror stories my friends have told me, never mind what I've seen on here.

MWave rules IMHO.

It's whining to point out a peculiar business practice? Nobody is stopping you from shopping there. I have personally made the decision not to deal with a company that plays these kind of games. So I'll spend a little more.

I'm not out making a bunch of threads complaining, but when I agree with a topic, I'll say so.

All the OEM processors I have bought from them have come in a seperate package, whereas the retail ones they just put in with the other items. That would explain why your shipping went up when you switched to OEM.

I seem to recall that happening with the last system I built. Thanks, it makes sense then. Maybe they explain it somewhere on the site, but I do not see it in the shipping section.

i think you guys should move right next door to neweggs facility, then everything you buy you pay nothing in shipping except taxes
I dont like newegg all that much, something are cheaper elsewhere. wouldn't make this the only place to shop thought.

This is fine assuming that price is all you care about. You can toss that savings out the window if you need something in a hurry (price would go up do to shipping) w/ their 1-2 days order proccessing deal, or if you have to pay shipping twice to RMA a mobo. At least w/ Mwave you have the choice of them pre-testing the combo. I'm quite sure they'd foot the return shipping if it was bad after you payed to have it tested.

Also there's other places out there.

If I need 1 item, and I'm not in any rush. I may do the Newegg thing again, but if I'm getting a few things, need a mobo, and/or CPU, or just want it right away. I'm going Mwave, or somewhere else man.

That's my story, and I'm stickin to it.

Newegg has fast shipping? Gimme a break.

I order for a company, and we used to get a whole ton of 60GXP's through them (multiple orders for multiple drives a month), and EVERY TIME. I mean EVERY TIME, they wouldn't ship out for 2 extra days after I ordered, even though we paid for next day red in every case. Calling them the day of the order would result in "yes sir, it will be shipped out today, your order has been processed and ready", yet it would still sit in their warehouse for 2 days.

It seriously threw a crimp in some operations we do, as they were rush-orders for servers. The stuff I'd order the next day from other places would arrive sooner than the newegg stuff.

Because of this, I refuse to do business with them. I'll pay the extra $2/item somewhere else that actually knows how to keep a promise and provide decent customer service.

Newegg has EXTREMELY fair shipping prices. They would stink if they were FedEx Ground prices, but keep in mind these are FedEx 3 day prices!

I have ordered so many things from them, $1000's worth of stuff, and they are excellent. Never had an RMA problem (once they even re-issued an RMA for me after I didn't send it in at the specified 15 day period). Never a restocking fee either.

I ran across this while adding a mouse to a recent order. (Note...This was not the one added to the order)

LOL... $0.69 for the mouse, $6.00 shipping

I do like Newegg and haven't had any problems with them. For shipping usually I just wait until they have it on special (Free FedEx Saver) or if it still works out to be cheaper than other places I order anyway. Granted I'm not ordering mission critical items.

I look at it this way: I'm an educated consumer (IMHO ) and I know what's going on, so I can live with that.
