Anyone else notice that Neweggs pricing has been getting pretty bad over the past few months?

Case in point - the 9800 XT was intially listed on their site for $550 (not in stock). Then it went to $600 (in stock now), to $575, to $569, to $564, to $539. This whole while, places like Best Buy and CompUSA have been shipping it for $499.

There's other stuff like memory and software thats priced awfully high as well. Whats going on? Newegg earned its reputation by combining some of the best prices available with great customer service. Seems like theyre sort of selling out now. :/

Newegg's pricing on brand new items has always been a bit off while the supply for the item is still low. Once their easily available neweggs prices fall in line.

But that wasnt even the case - like i said, Best Buy and CompUSA have been shipping the item for over a week at $499.

But you have to keep in mind BestBuy and CompUSA are a lot bigger in perspective than Newegg is. They've probably received many more of these cards than Newegg has and therefore less demand. Newegg is just doing what any business would do, take the market for a new card and try to make some money off it until things settle into a steady road (and the priceline evens out).

As said above, prices on just-released items are not the best, and out for only a week is still "just released."

Also, for retail software Newegg doesn't get the co-marketing money and other kickbacks from the software companies, they pay standard distributor prices then add a standard markup. They also don't get the vendor-specific rebates you see in Hot Deals.

So it's still up to you to compare prices. Newegg won't always be the best source but that's nothing to get stressed about.

How do they make a profit with low prices. I mean it cant be much with that free shipping and what not they offer. I mean there prolly a nice size but no walmart which sells stuff low but sell 1000000000000 of that item

Volume for the most part. Also they have no storefront to maintain that I know of. Thats how most of the internet companies are able to sell at low prices. They have low overhead.

Your post is interesting, 'cause to be honest, it has not been my experience that Newegg has good-->great prices on most things. Their customer service is outstanding. Their prices on motherboards, CPUs, and (occasionally) RAM are usually the cheapest (or tied with Googlegear/ZipZoom) after you factor in inflated shipping charges at other retailers. I would never go there for things like cases, hard drives, video cards (though their OEMs are usually decently priced), etc.

Newegg is always the FIRST place I check, but it sure isn't the only place I get my parts from. But thats okay...no single outfit is going to have the lowest price on everything at everytime.

I've noticed something similar as well. The Saphire 9800Pro Bulk was first listed at $306. Then it dropped to $299. Then within a week they raised the price to $301 and put an "On Sale" sign in big bold print above it. Now it's gone up to $305, still with the "on sale" sign.

Yeah this is the crap that annoys me, their "sales" just mean that the item has the sale icon next to it, in no way does it imply the item is discounted. That seems like some false advertising to me.

Their one day sales aren't too bad. Yeah, not good as "hot deals" ones for hard drives, blank media etc. But I continue shopping there for their service compared to other online retailers.

They are a business, they would probably lose money in some cases if they offered prices on new items similar to those of bigger companies.

Keep in mind these guys are just arguing the sensible logic for you, PaperclipGod. We would all favor lower prices from our favorite online retailer.

Lower prices is good, but not when its advertised as a sale item and they accually raised the price! i have noticed that too!!! It says sale, but the price went up.. lol. what is up with that?

edit: i do shop from them often though. On alot of things they offer competitive prices, also their service is unbelievable, very trustworthy. When i need something that is important to me, and i want it to just work out of box, newegg is the place to go!

How about their recent "8 hour sale" where the Audigy 2 ZS was $109 with "free shipping" (full MSRP + $9!)? Meanwhile, other places were $90-95 shipped. Even ordinarily their "free shipping" is usually bogus and really just means shipping is included in the price (like all items at zipzoomfly) and sometimes items will have high fixed shipping fees that are not reduced with quantity even if they are tiny and weigh nothing. Like anywhere else, sometimes their prices are good and get my bidness and sometimes they ain't and don't. However, in my experience their service has been consistently good so it is among a few places where I will likely buy from even if the price is a buck or two higher than an unknown found on pricewatch or somesuch.

Just built 2 systems in the last week. As always, I price check every item to see who has the best deal. On 95% of the items, Newegg is #1. There are others that are somewhat lower in cases, but their reseller ratings are in the dungeon too. For now, Newegg is still the best.

newegg.com is the worlds biggest online computer reseller... I bet they take far more orders than best buy and compusa on computer stuff. My neighbor used to work there.. and he tells me they reached a record high of over 10,000 orders a day.

So how many did you buy from BB or CUSA? (My guess is 0)
Oh, and here's some cheese to go with your whine.
