X1950XT 512mb
$30 MIR

Please don't ask me if this is faster than 8600GTS

i edited the summary to reflect the $170 sale after MiR is gone; if it comes back, you can edit it, OP

I bought a Powercolor x1950xt 512MB on ebay for $178 shipped the other day, so this deal is not that bad.

Who knows if you would ever get the rebate but for the money, this is a great card.

Anyone have a link to a decent review or have any more info on this card?

I read somewhere that gecube used a pro board with xt core, or something of that nature.

But the 8600GTS has to be faster...it's a "newer" generation of video card, right???????????

LOL

oh man...I've really been itching for a fast 512MBer, but I need to lay off the comp purchases for a while

interesting gecube only has a 1 year warranty. I wonder if these are 'reconditioned'

Would be interesting if you can track that down. Looking at the card myself from the rear of the card also leads me to believe it shares the X1950pro PCB. Hummm.
Edit.
Taking a look again at the Gecube X1950 Pro It does look like a similar pcb with a few changes. Example, right where the PCI-E connection your will see PN/Revision. Pn is a simple white label while the second part patches the printed PCB. The Caps are in exact places while the coils appear to be replaced.
Not that this is really a bad, just not the X1950XT PCB. This may reduce OC potential and the only thing I would be a little worried about is VRM cooling. On the X1950 Pros you occasionally hear about the VRM overheating.

The Newegg description says "retail". Since a few high profile firms have gotten busted over the last 7-8 years for selling "used" products as "new" products, I doubt Newegg would take a chance risking their reputation. IMO.

So how does this compare to the 8800 gts ?

actually I just checked toms' benchmarks. The 1950xt is not much faster than my current 1800xt (maybe 20% on some games). The 8800 gts seems to be the min reasonable upgrade from the 1800xt. Oh well guess i'll wait till the 8800 gts drop in price or something faster comes along.

Doom 3

Gothic 3
HL2: Lost Coast
Oblivion
Prey
Rainbow Six Vegas
The Chronicles of Riddick
Serious Sam 2
Splinter Cell 3
Splinter Cell 4
Stalker
Tomb Raider: Legend
Call of Juarez D3D10

Summary

Last week I ordered 8800GTS 320mb because I didn't want a loud X1950XT 256mb card for $170. With this deal, you get double the ram and a finally a good cooler it seems. If this card was available, I would have probably gotten it instead of the 8800GTS for the time being.

I bought the loud X1950XT for 172 minus 20 MIR, it's not that loud compared to my 6800GT that spun at 80% 24/7 and with Ati Tray Tools you can change the fan speeds for whatever you're doing.

As for the current deal, go for it, I would've gotten it myself

I use me AE exclusively anymore. The extra year of warranty is well worth it.

what? how?

From the American Express website:

"The free repair period and the coverage given under the manufacturer's original warranty is automatically doubled for up to one additional year, on many products purchased (motorized vehicles and their parts are excluded) with the Card in Canada and the U.S., provided the manufacturer's warranty does not exceed five years. Proof of purchase, a copy of the manufacturer's warranty and a description of the product are required to register your purchase. You will need approval from American Express before any repairs will be covered. Repair costs are limited to $25,000 per eligible item."

Is this faster than an 8600GT??

...fooled ya! I just ordered this, I've been looking for a step up above my 7600GT (which has served me extremely well) and I think this card is it.

Received mine. Confirmed x1950 Pro PCB as well as memory configuration. So they stuck a x1950XT chip on the pro PCB. So the card is configured 625/700(1400) vs 625/900(1800) of a full blown X1950XT. Still a good deal but a little shy of a full on X1950XT. For the price I'm not complaining.
As for the FAN it's a big improvement over the stock x1900 heatsink but a little on the loud side on full load.

Haven't attempted overclocking. However, since this is based on the pro I'm not expecting much.
