DON,

Why didn't you buy one last night?

I wanted "Asus" but i was busy getting laid when they were released and were all OOS when i finally was done. Rumor has it newegg will have MSI 7970's today but we'll see.

My two fav brands are Asus and MSI. I thought about Sapphire but the last sapphire card i had a 4870X2 was a POS and it took 2 months to RMA

I could only imagine having that kind of stamina considering the cards were in stock for near 4 hours.

Viagra my friend.. Viagra

Its not that big of a deal on me not getting a 7970 last night. There will be more.

I think the more accurate assumption is that they had thousands of sapphire boards. Looking at their stock levels @ newegg business, they had a TON of stock of the sapphire and HIS models. This wasn't the case with the GTX 480 from what I remember (tracking the stock @ newegg business) The asus , gigabyte and xfx boards sold out within 30 minutes, I believe.

Its really annoying that so many ebay vultures bought them though. I can only hope that nobody would pay the extra to get one from ebay.

It looks like the Sapphire 7970 is still available over at Newegg business

Did you pick one up?

I was just window shopping. I'm actually satisfied with my gtx 480's performance. Can't justify an upgrade at this point in my situation. Not sure I'd even notice it if I went from 45fps to 60fps in BF3. Really anything above 40fps seems smooth to me. Not sure I could see the difference between 45 or 60fps with my eyes if both were playing side by side.

Not telling to get one or anything. I wouldn't buy one either if I had a 480. But I can see a difference in BF3 from 45fps to 60fps. Even in Dirt3 I can see a difference from 50 to 60fps.

In any case, It looks like I won't be getting a 7970 anytime soon. They will be here in feb and prices will range from $750 to $990 for the gigabyte SOC and ASUS custom card. Not sure if it will be a DirectCU card. I have to find out what I can get one for, but it's not looking good.

Will have to see how much the 7950 costs.

You definitely won't have a better experience with HIS if it needs to be RMA'ed. Actually, you wouldn't even be dealing with HIS directly, but "Lexy Pacific Corp." which is their US distributor. Took them over two months to RMA a card for me.

In my experience though, cards tend to die either early on or after years of of use. If the card dies in the first 30 days you can get it replaced by newegg (provided they have replacements in stock). The HIS card I RMA'ed was purchased from a local retailer that charged extra for "warranty service", such as replacing a card within 30 days of purchase. They are no longer in business.

I wasn't fast enough for the HIS 7970 and newegg cancelled my order. I'm still on the hunt

I'm finding myself pissed about the price gouging on amazon. It's $700 for an ASUS reference card. Guess I'll be waiting a while.

Diamond and MSI are missing from Newegg. They should be on today or in the next few days. Just keep watch and PM me if they should show up

ncix still has some stock left, including the XFX DD card.

http://ncix.com/search/?categoryid=0&q=7970+radeon

Powercolour and Sapphire are sold out already though.
They won't ship to the US, otherwise I would have grabbed one. I woke up this morning and Newegg didn't authorize my sale because there was something wrong with my Shoprunner account. I got it sorted out with a quick phone call, but that doesn't do me any good since all the 7970's are out of stock . However, I was able to hopefully snag an XFX DD off of NCIXUS.com: http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=67171&vpn=FX797ATNFC&manufacture=XFX . They were in stock briefly for $533 and I jumped on it. I called up CS and the gentleman on the other end said they had 10 in stock and they'll go through in the order received, so hopefully I got one. It'll be interesting to test my current opinion of XFX.

Decisions, decisions. According to XFX, the other version of the DD black edition is handpicked from the top 1% of cores. Whether that is true or not is yet to be seen until overclocking results start coming in. If their statements are just so much hot air, I'll just grab a regular card.

Agreed, really bummed about the price gouging at Amazon. Only major retailer I've seen doing it to that extent so far. Unfortunately stuck waiting on them due to lots of gift cards

Yeah, I've got $200 in gift cards for amazon, which would get me back down to MSRP right now.....

RAPE!!!!

For the 1Ghz model that's true. The other XFX DD model is in stock with a couple cards left. That was my conundrum, buy the non-binned version now or wait for the supposedly binned model which could be who knows when.

Keeping an eye on Amazon. The Sapphires are officially in stock, and price is sliding down slowly ($600 as of this writing). Hoping for more/ different stock, or down to MSRP.

Anyone have experience with VisionTek? Their card is trending about $10 less than the Sapphire at the moment. May hold out for MSI/Asus/ Gigabyte/Sapphire regardless.

Bummer, well at least they didn't charge you for it and make you wait.

On a side note, has anyone's card shipped yet? Mine is confirmed/charged, but not even packaged yet.

I haven't even gotten the will call confirmation yet. Usually, I get it right away, but seems they're overwhelmed with all those 7970 orders right now.
