That price drop(if the rumor is true) was before retailer mark-up, MSRP still is 549$. That was probably done to discourage retailers from artificially limiting supply to drive the price up.

$475 was a dumb rumor anyhow. These things are going to sell out on the first run no matter what, so there's no incentive for anyone to lower their prices. If AMD doesn't capture the profit their partners will, and if their partners don't capture the profit the retailers will.

I just made this post in another thread.

I checked the photo's at newegg, that XFX model is using the reference AMD PCB, the numbers on the pci-e connector match the other's. It will be interesting when the bios's get dumped and we will see if XFX, went with a little more voltage for the 1000mhz VS 925 on the other's.

Different cooler, obviously. Looking at the back side view though, I don't see the bios switch on it. I'd prefer to have a modifiable bios with a safety backup. We already know there's a custom bios out there that ups the O/C limits in CCC.

If you use the top 360 view and zoom, it does appear to have the switch. Which I also can't see from the back though.

Nothing on ncix yet though. Soooo tempted, but must hold off for 7970 Lightning

No idea what to do with my current cards. Do not think I could cover the cost of even one of these with the current 2nd hand value of 3 GTX 480s. I always buy knowing single-gpu cards lose value long term, but these were easily the worst video card purchases ever in terms of depreciation!

Hate to say it but... told ya. Never bother with those small retailers when it comes to purchases like this.

Anyways, ordered a Gigabyte HD7970 from the egg. Should get it Tuesday w/ next day shipping.

I guess you're paying for the Asus reputation and warranty. Gigabyte's content is similar to Asus.
