Neweggs early adopter pricing:I've already seen the X3350 oem in stock for $315, I wouldn't touch this one at $300 with a ten foot pole

moogr.com (sister company to xcaliberpc, links to the same warehouse) use coupon code "marchmadness"

Retail box after coupon applied $324.99, OEM after coupon $314.99

Here's the link to the OEM

IMO the extra $50 over the Q6600 is worth it for the additional overclocking headroom, lower power consumption, and lower heat output.

Over a few years, this thing would easily pay for the difference in price by saving you on your power bill.

wow $320 with the coupon code? that sounds pretty sweet. i think i might get this instead of the q9450. it is pretty much the same thing isn't it? so it should work with a board that says it's compatible with q9450?

I just ordered a X3350. I want the 8x multi and the 12 meg cache ! Quad number 8 on the way ! $344 shipped. I screwed up, didn't see the reply before I hit enter order. But I called, and they are not affiliated with moogr. They wouldn't take the code, so I lost the $20....335 (344 shipped) isn;t bad.

They still showed the retail box in stock the last time I looked. Opps looked again and its OOS now

They also have the X3360 (Q9550) instock for $528 after the coupon code if anybody wants to jump for the 8.5 multi version

The egg price gouges based on the number of hits a item gets. When every one form all the forums gets done clicking on the links like this one it will drop.
The 780i boards came out on NE for $250 and quickly (like in 4 hours) were over $300. They will get some rich kids to buy them though.

The Q6600 is actually $254 but every one wants the latest and greatest. IMO this one is a celly with the crap multiplier. The appeal of the Yorky is it is suppose to run cooler so more room to clock.

hmm I'd love to get my hands on the q9300 or q9450, but with the current pricing and a possible price drop of the q6600, which is better for the modest overclock? those fixed multipliers would probably hurt those pushing the limits, wouldn't it?

lucky bastard...

Guess I'll have to be happy with my dual core e3110. Well, if my stinking clips would get here for my Koolance...LOL they ship slow as molasses there. I have no way to mount it. Then again I do have an E4300 heatsink and it's bigger than the puny server one that came with it
Things that make you go hmmmm...

FYI Moogr is OOS and now wants $360 anyway. So yeah, good price if retail. OEM still shows in stock for $350. Of course anyone buying OEM these days is crazy when you get 3yr warranty for $10 more.

Not at all. Every single benchmark will be won by the Q9300/X3320. Period. And that's not including the fact that it runs cooler, should overclock better based on the 45nm process (assuming a board that can hit 2000+fsb) AND comes with SSE4.1.

The faster FSB, 100mhz, and core improvements make it win 7% avg in everything.

Q9300 vs. Q6600. Q6600 didn't win ONE test.

Look at the power consumption. Q9300 is 100mhz more. Now look at the overclocked ones at Q6600 3.6ghz vs Q9300 3.5ghz. Which you would probably need to get close to the Q9300. A full 70watts!

I might want the 3350 if I bothered though. Easier overclock without huge FSB.

But your wallet usually dictates what you do...LOL

the 9450 vs 9300 (or the xeon equivalent) should only be $50 or so different. imho that is well worth the price for the higher multi and doubled cache. now, spending $200 extra for the 9550 is probably NOT worth it unless you must have 4 ghz to soothe your e-penis.

just ordered mine. $323.98 shipped seems like a great deal on these! I won't be home until sunday, hopefully it'll be waiting for me then...

mark, what mobo are you going to put this in? never mind...ds4 I see. What cooling are you planning to use? I'm hoping I can run seti 24/7 somewhere in the 3.6 range on my ip35 pro with the tuniq.

@superstition: it might be hard to justify $300 vs $200 for the q9300 vs q6600, but I think that $124 extra for the q9450 vs the q6600 is a little more palatable. You have much better thermals, more cache, 5-10% improvement clock/clock even without sse4 taken into account, and most likely better overclocking. Also, you'll end up saving some $$ over the lifetime of the cpu to push them closer in price, or, if not, you'll have a much faster cpu for the same power draw. Any way you look at it, you win. The only downside would be if you have an older mobo that has problems with penryn quads or you have ddr2 533 or 667 and want to oc. I'm happy that tenax has already experimented with the ip35 pro and had some success, so I don't need a new mobo. Also, I have ddr2 1066 already so I'm covered in the overclocking department.

I am going to try an XP90. I had one on my Q6600 around xmas, and it stayed at a little over 70c @3.5, and this being 45nm, maybe it will be cooler ?

according to the xbit article, 70w cooler at load with the max OC. The nice thing for me is that it looks like only 36w more than an e6850 at 3.7, which is a good approximation for my e6750 at 3.6. The thermals were the biggest reason for me to hold out for the penryn quads, hopefully they won't disappoint

Doing some simple math, assuming 70W difference, that is 1.68 kw/day, so ~ 50 kw /month. assuming 10cents per kw hr that is $5 per month in savings.
