What additional features do the C "stepping" of the P4 CPUs have? HT and 800FSB?

So "C" just means Pentium 4 with 800 MHz FSB and HT. I knew there were modern P4s with these, but I did not know they were reffered to as "C" Pentium 4s.

Can anyone confirm this? BTW, does the "C" in there stand for Canterwood or something? I'm kinda lost... hehe..

no letter = Willamette P4
a = Northwood w/400fsb
b = Northwood w/533fsb
c = Northwood w/800fsb

The letters are used to designate between the different cpu's with the same speed.
P4-2.4 = Northwood w/400fsb
P4-2.4b = Northwood w/533fsb
P4-2.4c = Northwood w/800fsb

There is no P4-2.4a, because there was no Willamette 2.4ghz, and no need to differentiate.

Wingznut: Thanks for clearing that up! BTW, what's the name of the new chipset that supports 800FSB?

AgaBooga: Wingznut actually mentioned that earlier, but thanks anyway

BTW, are earlier chipsets (845) compatible with the C series CPUs?

Some are by bios addition (like the new Asus P4PE bios), but not really up to running the same way. There's probably more about that in the Motherboards section.

Is the 2.4C a good speed for today? (this is without overclocking i just push the chip to the highest and go back to stock for kicks.....no need to damage a 200 dollar chip) If i were on the market today and wanted my p4 to last which should i get? (my 1.6 p4 the older core is feeling slow next to my 2.4b)

So...it's May 21st...with the prices not dropping and the 3.2 not out...right. That helps me a lot.

So tempted to order it now too! What are the popular motherboards for running these P4Cs? I saw the Abit IC7, but I want to stay away from Abit after a previous experience. What are you guys/gals using?
