Abit IC7 and it kicks a$$

Yup, looks like I might have to get the IC7 if I decide to upgrade. The prices for the other motherboards are so expensive!

Wow googlegear just went down to 198. I hope if I wait a bit longer it doesn't run out of stock!

So I'm assuming that the glitch with these processors has been fully resolved by Intel?

Most likely, because I'm sure they would have tested for the same problem.

Actually my comment was more about asking what the issue was as I had no real doubts that it had been fixed.

What glitch?
There were some tests that didn't work on the 3 GHz-C processors. Intel identified an issue and their release was delayed.

Yeah, I think that was only a problem with the 3.0C processor, there haven't been any reports of problems yet for the new chips.

The 2.4c is under $200 now at newegg with $199 for retail and $183 for oem.

If one were to go with the new ht/800mhz fsb chips, what chipset is the fastest and what's a good board?
I see that it says the springdale is the faster chipset on newegg.

Bleh! I stay away from OEM processors. Lower resale value when it comes time to sell it.

I used to only get oem processors when the price difference was alot, but now when it's only ~$10-15 difference between oem and retail,
and you get a hsf and a 3 year warranty, it doesn't make sense to buy oem (even if you use your own hsf instead of the one provided).

NICE, the P4c 2.4 GHZ has dropped $20 in the last two days.

I might get around to ordering my 2.4c next week, I hope it goes to around $189 for the Retail version.

Anyone think so, or do you think it will stay at $199 for a few Weeks?

It'll probably be around $175 street prices within a week or so because its $178 each in 1000 quantity lots. Yes, it will drop more.

Uhh, are you sure about that AGA? If a retailer like NewEgg.com has to buy 1,000 units at $178 each, I dont understand why they would then just want to turn around and sell them for $178 or less. If they do this, wouldn't they be selling each P4c 2.4 cpu at a loss? I think any business would need to add a few $$ on to the price of $178 to cover expenses and make a bit of a profit.

And is the 1000 lot minimum for Retail Versions, or OEM CPU's?

Yes and I also hear that underclocking those processors below 3 GHz stopped the problem so I'm guessing it might've been something to do with timing issues.

In any case it couldn't have been major as Intel have fixed it pretty quickly.

Yes, completely.

Although I cannot go into detail... It was an incredibly minor issue that a relatively obscure test found. I would be very surprised if it ever affected any end user.

At any rate, it's been fixed. And no... "Underclocking those processors below 3 GHz stopped the problem" isn't accurate.

Sorry that I'm being so vague. But I just wanted to clear up a couple of things without jeopardizing the necessary confidentiality.

Thats why the 3.06GHz P4 is has a price of $401 in lots of 100, yet is selling at almost every where for significantly under that

Well, those are the published prices, atleast. Newegg doesn't ahve to buy them at those rates and Intel can sell them at whatever they want. Also, whatever the reasons backing you up, thatsright, their prices will drop and usually seem to come lower than the published prices.

great news - I thought I'd have to wait a few weeks for them to finally fall to those prices... now I just have to pick which 865PE board I want... I hate being indecisive...

Retail is still $198.

camswinton, any reason why you are choosing the 865 boards?

Price. If I had a bigger budget I might go with a Canterwood board. That said, I'm still thinking about the Abit IC7 board -- it's a good 875 board that's almost as cheap as the 865 boards. I don't need gigabit LAN, ECC memory support, or think the small speed increase from PAT is worth the extra $$$. From the early 865 reviews, it doesn't seem the price difference is worth it (IMHO).

I was sold on the 865 based on the fact that most boards out there are $40+ cheaper if 865 based yet the performance difference really isn't too much if you get nice memory.
