For those who don't know, an R9 280 is a rebranded HD 7950. What a steal for $130. I dare anyone to find a better card for this price that isn't used or refurbished.

This seems like a crazy-good deal. R9 280 cards start at $194.99 before rebate. Plus, I'm a bit rebate-shy.

HIS isn't a bad brand, and their IceQ2 coolers are well-respected as I understand it, but some of the reviews mentioned the fan failing on this card prematurely. I hope that doesn't happen to me, I snagged two of them, one for each of my G3258 rigs.

I wonder if I would be CPU-limited or GPU-limited at 1080P with this configuration?

I don't play games on PC much anymore, but I might get back into it if these cards work well.

I have an HIS 7790 1GB GDDR5 in my G3258 right now. I had two, but I sold one. The HDMI port died on the one I have now, so I'm using an ATI DVI-to-HDMI dongle on one of the DVI-I ports, and that gives me HDMI with audio.

That definitely isn't an IceQ cooler, this cooler in particular is pretty subpar.

I just got one of them installed in one of my G3258 boxes. Seems pretty fast at MilkyWay@Home. 0:37 (37 seconds) for some WUs. They just fly by.

Strangely, I couldn't get the HDMI port on the new 7950 card to work, either. I even replaced the HDMI cable (was slightly kinked).

So I had to resort to the same solution - using a DVI-to-HDMI ATI dongle.

Now, I'm thinking that the HDMI cable doesn't plug in all the way to make contact, due to the case (there's a ridge of metal that sticks out, right at the start of the card slots).

In that case, perhaps the HDMI port on my old card is alright. I hope.
