Yes, it certainly helps make the Ultra-120 a more efficient cooler when one hooks up a fan to it. I believe that it's this one:

but I'm not totally sure. If you are really curious I can try to remember to ask him.

Didn't read everything, but wanted to add my $0.02

I had a similar fallout with Newegg when I tried to buy a Laptop last October. I needed the thing fast and I got an e-mail days after I placed my order to tell me something was wrong. I called to fix it, and a few hours later my order was cancelled. Apparently, newegg cancels any orders with unresolved problems after 3 days. Unfortunately, that 3 days includes days that nobody at newegg sends e-mails - like weekends. So, even though I got it taken care of before the deadline, somebody must not have cleared the flag and my order got cancelled.

But they were good about it - offered to give me a creedit equivalent to what it would take to ship next-day instead of 3-4 day. Unfortunately, they had to put another authorization on my credit card - and the first one hadn't been credited back yet - that would take about 1 business week. Seemed silly to me - the reorder differed from the original only by the extra shipping. But, I didn't have time to wait (long story), so I wound up cancelling my order.

Yes, it was really just an unfortunate series of events, but seriously, I expected to not fall through the cracks. Now, I use newegg's website to browse customer reviews and order elsewhere. That may change someday, but for now, my business goes somewhere else.

I'm such a whore.

Listen to this guy. If a company is giving you a hard time just give them a call and try to figure it out. I bought all the parts to my computer and put it together myself from newegg.com. They are a great service and just like this guy said offer great stuff to disatisfied customers. Especially if you have a claim to what your asking for. Maybe even if you don't have a claim Like this guy for example. No offense man..

I know it's more about the principle at this point, but why not order a different heatsink/fan and be done with it?

This one is $20 cheaper and one of the best air coolers on the market.

I am sure newegg will come thru and probably give you a credit for your troubles if you can remain calm. People and businesses make mistakes, but in the end it's how you handle those mistakes that leads to a customer's lasting impression. Once you know you newegg.

Whoa! Newegg came through with flying colors guys! Check out my PM from the newegg support guy:

Thanks for allowing us to assist you, PC Surgeon*.

As of right now, we don't have a specific explination as to why this CPU fin was removed form your order and placed on backorder. However, we would like to send you the CPU fan at no charge, while we investigate internally.

SO# xxxxxxxx has been created to send the Scythe product (item# N82E16835185027), at no additional charge. Please check our Order Status page for further details and confirmation.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to PM us or contact our Customer Service Department.

Our sincerest apologies for this inconvenience. If there is anything more we can do, let us know.

Thank you for your time and understanding.

-Newegg Support

And I thought that was great....but then this message:

By the way, SO# xxxxxxxx will be shipping via UPS Next Day, however, it probably will not ship until tomorrow, 09-13-06, for delivery on Thursday, 09-14-06.

I hope this slight delay does not cause too much of an inconvenince. If so, let me know.

Thanks again!

-Newegg Support

Guys, I am beside myself with how well they recovered. Extremely excited with thier level of customer service. Shoosh! Wouldn't you be? hahaa

Thanks Newegg!

Glad you got everything sorted out. Contrary to popular belief, there are actual humans working at newegg and mistakes happen. I love how one bad experience will completely kill any sense of loyalty someone has to a certain store. DO i always order from egg? nope, but i do often. And while ive had a problem or two in the past i continue to shop with them because 98% of my purchases there have been hassle free.

Newegg is pretty fair I'll admit...they do spend a considerable amount of time and money towards customer satisfaction. I had one of my shipments stolen last month..they handled it and even used next day to ship it...a total gain of about - $20 from my order.

He ordered a monitor pretty cheap, and newegg actually recalled it during shipping, then marked up the price on the site and then tried to make him pay more to get it back, or something like that. I don't know, I've always had good luck with Newegg. /shrug

Yes I remember this. He waited and called UPS to see what happened and they said it was recalled. Then he called Newegg and they said something about "we have no idea what happened, please palce your order again" and look at that...it went up in price.

LOL, that was probably me. It was a Samsung 19" LCD for a great price. It was in town, ON THE TRUCK for delivery, and after a few hours of it not showing up I checked the tracking and it had an error that claimed it was being returned to sender. I called up UPS and they told me the shipment looked fine, and to call Newegg. So, I did, and they told me the order looked fine, and to call UPS.

After the bounce around, I finally found out that a guy from one of the departments had my order canceled, claiming it was the wrong model that was sent to me. I asked if they could send the correct model, and they would not. I looked on the website and they had the monitor I ordered in stock, but at a higher price. It wasn't a price mistake, either, because it was only slightly lower than the previously lowest price online at the time.

I've used Newegg for the vast majority of my computer hardware purchases for years & although there have been a few hiccups here & there, they have always made good on them when I made the problem known to the right people at customer service.

Right now my only serious issues with the Egg are their continued use of UPS as primary shipping which forces me to pay extra for Fedex & their dead-pixel policy for LCD moniters which means I'll never buy one from them until they change it.

The sad thing is the only reason they went out of their way to help you is because they know very well that bad publicity on this forum = thousands of dollars lost for them.

If you hadn't complained publickly like this, i bet you that you'd have been screwed.

Good for them to come thru, but this thread just became advertising for them...

How do you guys have all this time to deal with Newegg?
Newegg almost 95% of the time ships out orders the next afternoon if not the same day for me.

not for nothing, but I believe that a huge part of their business comes from the people on these forums, including their grandmothers. On top of that we recommend which sites to order stuff from to our grandmother's cousin's daughter's father-in-law's brother...Safe to say it adds up. Anyone notice how fast Conroe prices dropped after the initial rush of overclockers bought them up? I'm glad they came thru for you Pc Surgeon.

I see you did 3.4 Ghz out of yours finally.

What vcore (reported in Windows) was needed?

PC Surgeon, you might want to edit your original post to reflect Newegg's final response. Glad they helped you out though.

edit: jolly good, case closed.

my $0.02

Many years ago I started using Newegg because of the price.

I'm continuing to use newegg years later because of the service I've recieved. Problems are rare and delt with quickly.

I will occasionaly order from ZipZoomFly or Buy.com if I have a single item to order and ZZF or Buy has free shipping on it. Or I will order from ZZF if the egg happens to be out of stock and I'm on a time crunch.

These 3 shops have taken care of all my online computer part needs for a long time.
