Roughly $6000 since 2005. Maybe a third was parts for friends and family computers that I built. They love me...both Newegg for the business and F&F because their computers still work well. No true big-box purchases there yet.

Amazon has decent selection but their layout and info leave a lot to be desired.

Where? The cheapest I see is $100.

Edit: D'oh. Found it.

Meh, there was a 2TB Seagate OEM drive on sale at Dell for ~$65 after coupon back in March I believe. Didn't need it then, still don't need it now, probably should have pulled the trigger on it regardless. However I knew that was a sign of things to come for 3.5" drives.

Anyway, for me it will most likely always be:

1) Amazon
2) Newegg
3) eBay

This thread got me interested, and a little scared to do it. But added it up and since 2003 comes to around $4100 so about ~$600 a year. Not bad.

i used to spend a lot there. Until they opened up a warehouse in NJ and started charging tax. Now I only go to the egg to buy small dollar things I need right away

Why do so many people like to mention how much they spent at so and so business almost as if they expect some kind of extra courtesy? You give them money and they give you product.

In my past jobs, I fucking hated the people that come in and expect me to give them free shit or look the other way because they spent X amount of money there in the past. I'm just a low level worker and never got anything extra due to your business. If you have some qualms and feel you deserve some kind of preferential treatment, take it up to the CEO. However, trust me when I say that your business probably isn't highly valued compared to a lot of other bigshots. In fact, after all the extra hassle and abuse all the workers take for that $5 dollar profit the store made from you, it would be better if you never came there in the first place and instead went to a competitor.

I've spent a hair under $3500 since January 2006. I haven't placed an order there since March 2010. I order most of my stuff off of amazon nowadays ever since I've had Prime.

I still go with amazon, even if Newegg is a little bit cheaper. It's a great piece of mind knowing I'll have an item in 2 days guaranteed, as opposed to taking 4-5 days depending on what shipping center Newegg ships from.

is amazon > newegg? I haven't bought computer parts in years except for ram and hard drives, but I find prices on amazon to always be cheaper.

If you have amazon prime, I'd say yes. I do most of my research on newegg and order on amazon.

Browsing for computer parts (without knowing the actual model numbers) is nearly impossible on amazon.

It depends for me. I check Amazon to compare pricing because I have Prime, so if I can get something for the same price (amzn = price + tax * convenience of two day shipping) > (newegg = price + no tax * always on time three day UPS). If I NEED it, I go with amzn almost always. But I can usually wait, and the price difference usually goes to newegg.

Total spent at newegg since April 2005 = $6900. Four system builds and countless parts.

$576 since 2005. LOL nub as hell. Though I didn't get a credit/debit card till like 2006 so I had some purchases from 2003-2004 with my mom's CC. My previous rig was mostly from ZZF, Tankguys, and such. Also my monitor was from Dell.

Where is the $80 2 TB hard drive? I'm only seeing $100 as the lowest.

And please, PLEASE tell me it's not some stupid "Green" drive. Seems like the trend in the past year or two with hard drives is to have a bunch of 5400 rpm or green garbage. If you don't want that, the selection at NE has left you with like a couple options at most. Or you have to go up to some stupid "gamer" drive that is really expensive.

They have a Samsung Spinpoint F4 which I think are great drives but it's $110 and 5400rpm. Why not a improved, larger version of my 500GB Spinpoint F1 7200rpm?

~10k since 2004. I haven't ordered anything from them in over two years though. I like Amazon also...and Buy.com has some good deals at times.

$4,000 since 2004.

It would be a lot more if I weren't in high school and college most of those years.

As a follow-up to my earlier post and some of the comments made by subsequent posters, I'd have to largely agree with the comments about Amazon. Amazon is now my largest etailer and I don't order much from Newegg these days. Amazon just has more, seems more flexible, and I can get free shipping on just about everything I buy.

Here's an example of their flexibility -- I tried to order a graphics card the other day using a VISA gift card, and Newegg couldn't accept it while Amazon took it with no issues whatsoever. For Newegg to accept it, I would've had to call, explain the situation, and hope they could authorize it. That is a PITA and I would have only done that if it was something Newegg had that no one else carried.
