I see OP also cross posted in General Hardware forum and got the attention of Newegg support.

yes, and I'm not sure if he even realized it was Newegg responding to him (he says "they" in response)

anyway, still can't find that actual comment that soundmanred has quoted. ...if he did make it, how would you still have it quoted? should be frozen in some thread buried within a response, no? free from such editing by OP.

I've been searching through post history to find it, and man...lots of strange posts about having this motherboard, which motherboard to get, now the motherboard is broken, now it has been in return for 3 days...all in the same day.

I'm confused.

Hahahaha!

I bought an ASRock mobo from Newegg last year, received it in two days, installed in the case with standoffs and it's been running ever since.

She***

No the cpu fan, one of the pins was slightly bent. That's why it was coding.

A bent slightly CPU fan pin isn't going to cause a motherboard to have the problems you indicated in the original thread. It's the impulsive rush to get things installed without taking to time to make sure you're doing it right that got you in this mess and 43 bucks to fix your error is a bargain.

I can tell you that if AsRock finds any damage to the board they'll charge you or even refuse to fix it. Also if you've got a second board without standoffs I would take it apart and fix it. Even if you think it's fine it's not.

My uncle will fix it.

Been using my other board for over a year.

I didn't come here to get called a liar.

It may be one of those cases that doesn't use explicit standoffs, but has the raised sections that act as standoffs.

My asus board. Didn't come with standoffs neither did the case.

The stand-offs normally come with the case (or something similar is built into the case, as discussed earlier in this thread).

Motherboards never seem to come with stand-offs.

If the metal of the case makes contact with the bottom of the motherboard (i.e. no stand-offs used, in a normal case, WITHOUT built in stand-offs or something), while power is available to its PSU, and especially when the computer is switched on, you stand a good chance of causing a big electrical short-circuit, and probably blowing up the motherboard, permanently.

Nice try, but you ARE a liar.
Did you tell Newegg you didn't use standoffs and damaged the board yourself or not?
Making libelous statements is bad, mmmkay?

How do no standoffs bend cpu pin fan? Hmm?

The board is 99% functional minus that cpu fan pin. Newegg said they tested it fully and that was their finally result. Which would cost me $43 for a new board, which I don't have. Plus they jacked my I/O shield, so I have to find a new one of those.

So maybe I bent the pin, maybe I didn't. We'll never know, will we?

Not dismantling my computer just to put standoff screws in. Been working for over a year. If the board fries, whatever. I don't even care anymore. It's a corsair c70, which I guess has built ins.

I'm done with Newegg too.

About a year ago, I returned a motherboard to Newegg for some compatibility problems. I took great care to pack the motheboard up exactly how it was when I opened it. This included putting the cover back on the CPU socket.

Newegg refused the refund, saying the CPU socket was damaged and returned the board to me. The package I got back did not have the CPU socket cover in it. The pins in the CPU socket were smashed and the plastic on the CPU socket had a deep scatch. I'm guessing the return inspector pried off the CPU socket cover, damaged the pins in the process, and decided to lie about it.

Newegg's customer service basically called me a liar when I talked to them about it and I ended up being out $80 plus the money I paid to ship the board back for the return.

That was my last Newegg purchase. Amazon is cheaper, has better shipping, and much better customer service. I still use Newegg to find stuff, but then I buy it on Amazon.

If newegg didn't mess it, AsRock said they'd probably waive the replacement fee excpet Newegg stole my I/O shield...Paying my newegg card off and burning it. No standoffs won't bend a CPU fan pin... I did all that too, I'm praying it comes back how I sent...

Amazon was way faster then newegg on shipping, got my graphics card there.

Nothing's really wrong with Newegg. Problem is that they haven't changed or kept up with Amazon's level of customer service and 2 day shipping. Newegg today is the same as it was many years ago, they just need to keep up with Amazon.

Ummm...you just stated what is wrong with Newegg after proclaiming there is nothing wrong with Newegg.

Logic fail.

They have been holding my board for 3 weeks and now they are saying I broke it and have to pay $43.

Since I refused to pay $43 they sent the broke board back and now I have to wait for it to get here so I can go thru AsRock to get a new board which could take (2+ weeks)

They have also been holding onto my return for 10 days and still haven't processed it.

Why is Newegg so horrible?

Kinda odd since they did the same thing to me with and ASrock mobo (ASrock boards are the worst, btw, steer clear in the future). It didn't work correctly so I sent it for an RMA and meanwhile ordered a whole other motherboard. They said I broke it and wouldn't refund me (been a customer there for 10+ years and spent thousands of dollars during that time, but they wouldn't refund me the 70 bucks it cost. I was able to get the money back through an insurance policy with my credit card company, but that still pissed me off and I haven't shopped there since.

Still, I think there are plenty of worse shopping sites out there, if someone told me they were going to buy something from newegg I wouldn't adamantly advise against it, but I won't be doing business there anymore. All my future thousands of dollars spent on computer stuff will go to someplace else
