The motherboard makes no sense, the CPU makes no sense, it just makes no sense

Newegg is bad as far as tech knowledge goes. They just make you spend more than you have to and force you to do it the hard way. There is no way in hell 6x290X will need 3kW worth of PSU. In majority cases they will be around 2kW max, unless you have extremely good cooling and are pushing voltage/clock speeds to the limit.

That board only has space for 2 gpus.... I don't understand why the kit has 6 gpus...

They're learning from the console gougers.. When availability is limited create expensive bundles with other "related" crap for a larger ticket to take advantage of demand..

Why does it come with 6 500GB HDDs?

Wouldn't you just use BAMT on a cheap USB stick?

It kind of seems like they just tossed in a bunch of random crap.

you can get a xeon w3520 for $40, which is the xeon version of the i7 920. Though, finding an x58 motherboard is challenging, as mentioned in those L5639 threads.

Newegg lol. What a joke they've become.

well, this one combo doesn't work, but where are you gonna shop other than newegg? i guess microcenter for cpu deals, but other than that, i don't think anywhere is as good as newegg in price, selection and site design.

Why would anybody use GPUs for mining these days? Dedicated hardware does it so much faster using so much less power. Isn't in a net loss to GPU mine these days?

This is for CoinyeCoins, DoggyCoinz, DaveCoins, etc. not bitcoins.

I only mine TulipCoins myself.

Wow, wasn't even aware that newegg had mining kits now.

They do... but it's a trap!

Amazon is amazing if you have prime and shop on their prime eligible products. I agree their site design may not be as great, but if you know what you are looking for, it is easy to find the best deals. Also, I have seen/heard that they will often do a price match of a competitor's product which usually includes rebate... So you get lower price, better customer service, faster shipping, and no bs rebates to deal with...

TD is also another alternative to newegg, but their customer service is actually way worse. However, they do have great deals every now and then, but most of them come with tons of rebates

Litecoin and Dogecoin are some of the actual altcoins being mined with GPUs since they use scrypt instead of SHA-256. The latter have the application-specific integrated circuits (ASIC is the acronym) powering most of the mining now while scrypt requires more RAM, so those ASICs haven't been developed yet.

I don't know about cryptography at all, so my explanation might not be 100% precise.

Couldn't you use some kind of server board to do the same thing with a dual xeon system or 2 nice 6 core processors. I wonder what costs more? The Memory on the video cards or actual system ram. I think the RAM on the video cards is actually faster RAM. You are looking at DDR3 VS GDDR5.

For what? A single core Celeron or Sempron is sufficient for scrypt GPU mining regardless of how many GPUs you want to run.

Can't mine as fast as a GPU
