Newegg not in the 4-22 game?

Ok, it's 4-22, I've been waiting for this for a month, waited until after midnight last night to see if NE would have the E6420 back on the website, nada. This morning they still haven't put it back up, what gives? I notice ZZF has had it available for a couple of days. Newegg makes enough money they don't want my business anymore?

Yes. That's exactly right. Newegg does enough business, they don't need to play the 4/22 Game

However, Mwave doesn't do enough business, so maybe you should check out their Game?

It's not a "game", it's called paying by Intel's rules.

Intel says you cannot sell or advertise the product until the embargo ends, which I think is midnight tonight - that's why they aren't listing them.

Newegg is very dependant on the Intel back-end funds they get, and they don't want to risk those by listing/selling the new parts or dropping the prices before they should.

Newegg has the new CPUs in stock, witing to ship.

Newegg has always sold above the reported lowest prices on hot items. The E4300 is a great example. That processor has been up on Newegg for months at $165 when most etailers were selling it in the $140 range. A few days ago they dropped the price to $135 and other etailers are now selling it at $117.

There's no reason for them to drop their price if people keep buying at the higher price. Competition is what keeps prices low, go buy from someone else.

I think it's called NewEgg always keeps the prices up for a few days because they have loyal buyers who don't care that they're paying more to buy from them. This is often the case year-round with them now that they are popular (basically the Amazon.com of online PC hardware... even lots of non-geeks know about NewEgg these days), so they can simply tack a premium on all of their prices and get away with it because most folks won't bother to price-compare and shop around to ZZF or MWave or other vendors.

Meanwhile places like MWave give the deals even starting a day early so folks who are simply looking the best deal from a known e-tailer can shop around and get the best price and availability. Here are MWave's prices and availability as of yesterday:
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=28&threadid=2037241&enterthread=y

I guess in a sense you could say both places have their target demographics - MWave knows it'll get the price-conscious deal seekers if it posts great prices and early availability, and NewEgg knows its popularity and size will get it solid sales even if they charge a bit more and may not even post the new products exactly on time.

My last rig I built almost entirely from parts ordered at ZZF because at the time nearly 75% of the parts I was looking at were not only cheaper at ZZF but they included two-day shipping free. NewEgg was often $2-10 more expensive per part and they charged for equivalent shipping. The other items that were cheaper at NewEgg were purchased at NewEgg.

That's just timing though. Other times NewEgg offers better prices on the majority of parts and includes similar free shipping offers and ZZF is up to $5-10 more expensive on the part prices.

This is why you should always be a smart shopper and SHOP AROUND.
Vendor "loyalty" is nonsense when the vendor you're being loyal to is the major e-tailer in the business and frequently not the best deal in town. As any reputable vendor would agree, if it's your money you're spending, the first thing you sohuld be loyal to is your wallet (i.e. cost).

I've had good shopping experiences at NewEgg, ZZF, and MWave, so I will generally check all three before making a purchase. ChiefValue (a NewEgg subsidiary, IIRC) is sometimes handy as well.

The Egg will reflect the price cuts in full starting at 12am. So stay up late and make your orders then

I'm not disputing what you mention about shopping around but the Egg has good prices and the best RMA process in the business from my experience. Their shipping on large orders is cheap and comes very fast to my door. If something is a few dollars cheaper elsewhere I will usually go with the Egg for their RMA process. Keep in mind Mwaves return policy with regards to Procs.

Due to manufacturer's policies, Mwave.com can not accept refunds or returns on All Software, Game Titles, Retail Boxed Processors, Notebooks, Blank Media and Blank Cartridges, Camcorders, Printer Cartridges, Notebook Batteries, Liquid Cooling Products, , Minolta, QMS, Cisco, IBM, Sony, Intel, Tektronix, NEC and Hewlett Packard products. Defective merchandise can be returned to the manufacturer directly

I do order elsewhere if a deal is hot though

NewEgg's prices on high-end processors are usually high in teh beginning, but they are usually quite good for the medium and low end processors, so I'm gonna wait another day and see what the Egg comes up with.

Thanks for the replies. I have dealt with Newegg on 5 ~ 7 builds over the past 5 years or so and have always had good results with them, that's why I was a little surprised (disappointed) they hadn't listed yet. They always have whatever I need in stock and have given me 110% support when I needed it. I can tell you about bad experiences with two other vendors, so I'm a little wary of shopping around, although I can appreciate it.

Its probably going to take a few days/weeks for the prices to completley drop anyway. Plus today is sunday, they probably havent gotten the new shipment in yet. Relax.

Days/weeks while other vendors are already there, eh? That doesn't sound wise.

I think people are willing to pay more with Newegg because of their pretty good service.

This is true, I'm willing to pay %5-10 in general over what other etailers are selling items for at Newegg under normal circumstances.

However, raising their price in the face of probably one of the most highly anticipated price cuts that I can remember in a while doesn't seem to make sense to me, and as a consumer I wonder what their motives are. People who are willing to pay %140 over market are certainly more loyal than me. If they can make money off these guys more power to em.

Newegg hasn't always been the quicket to update their prices or inventory status... I think by tomorrow you will see the new prices reflected.

I like newegg because of their great service and reliability and consistency, but their website is awesome too. They make it so easy to find what you're looking for, I usually save a lot of time by using their filters and then once I know what model I'm looking for I'll go compare prices. Newegg isn't always the best price, but it's never too far off and I know I can depend on them.

That said, I am usually disappointed with their inability to release new products at the same time as everyone else, and major price cuts always seem about 2 days behind the curve.

Damn, the C2D 6700 is still listed at 515$. The waiting continues.....

With the AMD price drop on the 9th, newegg seemed to reflect the price drop exmeditly.
