Newegg open box yes or no?

I see a lot of people post links to open box motherboards at newegg. I would love to get something of a deal, but Im scared I will get a busted mobo or one without the cables connectors or sound card (in the case of the maximus formula).

I dont mind buying some extra bits if its still a deal, but do the things -work-.

Anyone have any experience to share?

I returned a 680i LT once, and saw it pop up in a couple days. I know for a fact I put everything in the box, so whoever got that was set. I just dont know if most people do this or not.

Open box yes or no?

assume no accessories come with it, just the bare mobo. Otherwise, I buy newegg refurb all the time and had two issues which newegg fixed right away. One doa CPU and one DOA mobo, both refunded immediately.

I just got my order from New Egg and I can tell you they do not care too much by the way they package the open box items. I expected a little more packaging. I got a cpu & mb. The MB was wrapped in bouble wrap and the box was stuffed with a brown paper like material which probably was no good at keeping the items secure. The cpu appeared to be already used. I am not exaggerating when I tell you there was thermal paste still on the cpu. I haven't tried anything yet cause I opted to get a better mobo and am considering upgrading from DDR3 1333Mhz to DDR3 1600Mhz cause I want to take the Q9300 from 2.5Ghz to atleast 3Ghz without messing with the dividers, timings, or anything else except the fsb to 400, which im still in the dark about cause I don't know how to overclock with Intel. I still have 2 weeks till i get my mb and test things out. If ANY of the items are not working, they WILL take it back and refund my money.

I bought an msi 975x mobo and x1900 cf master card open box from newegg in jan 07. Both still run perfectly and came in the original packaging with all accessories.

You places your bets, you takes your chances. I'd much rather go to the boats and gamble. At least when I lose there I get some free drinks.

They aren't kidding when they say you take a chance buying open box. Newegg doesn't warrant them past a week or 14 days, and warns that accessories may not be in there even if they are needed. If you have trouble past the very short warranty period, you have to talk to the OEM of the device. However, I have had mostly very good luck with them. I got a steal on the following items with open box:
A biostar 6100-M9 mobo. This came in a biostar box, but not the same box the other non openbox one I got had. it didn't come with anything but the board, not even the I/O shield, but it works wonderfully to this day, just like it's higherpriced full twin of it I have.
A HP laserjet P1006 printer. The box showed a bit of a beating when I got it, but that could easily be ascribed to UPS' mishandling. It must have been a new printer, as it had every single item just as a brand new printer would have had - there must have been an error, or someone returned it without opening it. Either way, I got a steal on an already cheap printer.
An open-box version of a white-box oem avermedia M780... it actually came with the accessories, but no disc and was in an unlabeled box, plainly it was a return that someone returned the physical accessories but not the driver disc with. Works fine to this day - with a heat problem, as many of the full version cards are complained about having... I just make sure it stays cool and I get good use out of it with downloaded drivers and GB-PVR.

Are you sure about that? Their policy is 14 days return period for open box.

no from me. especially when buying mobo.
maybe yes, for dvd-writers etc.

i wonder if newegg suffers from the costco customer return syndrome?
customer buys new products, swipes some parts, returns to store. Then waits until it's up for open box sale, and buys it again.

I hate those kind of scammers. They make life harder for the honest rest of us.

No on MOBO. There isn't even an I/O shield guaranteed. I personally could not stand that

I did it in the past, wouldn't be doing again. Three open box mobos, one from mwave and two from newegg. The ones from newegg both worked fine initially, but both developed problems after several years. The one from mwave is still working, but then again, I do not use that PC often enough. Might not be problem for people who upgrade often, but I tend to reuse my old hardware.

I say sure to mobo. I got my mobo open box from newegg and got the I/O shield direct from the manufacturer for WAY less combined even after shipping than what the board cost retail. I bet I saved nearly $50 on that one alone.

I have purchased probably 30 open box boards from newegg and had ONE issue which they fixed right away. Nine times out of ten, most people don't use the bundled cables or accessories that come with mobos anyway and the drivers/manual can be downloaded. As long as there is nothing special, I say go for it. Get the I/O shield from the manufacturer or ebay and save a few $ if you can.

Heck, before I purchase anything I look in the open box section first just to see if I can save a few $. I know if it doesn't work when it arrives, newegg will take care of it.

Myself, I would not take a chance on a mobo. Maybe on something slightly less
complex. But a lot depends on the cost difference between open box & new.

I just bought an MSI P6N SLI and it was a full retail box, unopened. The MSI 9600GT was also a retail box unopened. Both boxes were kinda beat. I've never had a problem with an open box item from Newegg. I think a lot of the open box items are ones that have beat up or torn boxes and packaging. Still new but hard to sell that way without people complaining- so they sell them as open box. I buy open box whenever I can. Super cheap most of the time. The mobo was 60.00 and the vid card was 109.00 both with free shipping but prices and shipping change all the time so you have to check often on the stuff you are looking for.

My current desktop motherboard is a Newegg openbox - Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe. I had to drop another $12 for the IO shield from asus which sucked, but still when I bought it it was about $50 less than a new board. Haven't had any real problems with it.

My open box Asus Maximus Formula came in an anti-static bag wrapped in bubble wrap, and that's it. Then again, I managed to snag it when they were only $129.99 with free shipping so I'm not complaining (too much).

I'd say yes, lucky. All of the open box items i've purchased from newegg were the item only, no accessories.

same here. I bought an open box server board, saved about 150. The board and everythign was still sealed.

I've bought other boards from them with no issues, and most I/O shields you can get on ebay for a couple of bucks.

I've gotten dozens of (well, 7 or 8) open box mobos. No problems at all. I've written to manufacturers for i/o shields and received them for free.

For motherboards I would stay away from open box items. It's just a very easy piece to get screwed with in terms of pieces missing (I/O, cables, etc) and it's so fragile some stuff on it could be broken and no one at the store would have known.

this thread cracks me up. We have about 50 total mobos that have actually been purchased by users, with one bad one and two that failed after a couple years. then we have 8 or 9 people who have never bought an open box mobo saying "don't do it, be scared". hmmm, whom to believe, those who have experience in battle or those who have read a bunch of sun tzu's books...

The first thing I do before I buy anything at newegg is check the open box section for a deal.
