Newegg Order and 15% Restock Fee

I purchased some speakers from Newegg and they've already been shipped with an estimated delivery date of next Tuesday. This morning I found a much better deal on the same speakers someplace else.

Is there any way to cancel/return these to Newegg without being charged the 15% restock fee. What if I were to refuse the Fedex Package?

Thanks for any information or suggestions.

Refusing the package probably won't help. They'd likely just refund your money minus the restocking fee. You could cancel the charge with your CC company, but that can hurt your credit rating (and frankly, you're only supposed to do that if you're defrauded, not if you just don't want to pay).

You could try emailing/calling Newegg and telling them you found a way better price on the same product -- maybe they would credit you the difference or let you return it. Worst case is they tell you "sorry, sales are final" and you haven't lost anything.

As noted, if the difference was big enough, you could sell them (unopened) for only a slight loss and then go buy the cheaper ones. Depends how much of a price swing we're talking here.

Thanks for the replies. I did call Newegg, took awhile to get through to the rep. They said they couldn't do anything about the price. If I returned the speakers there would be the restock fee. But he did say if I refused the package then I would be out only the shipping charge (it was free shipping). I don't know how much I believe that. I'm still going to assume they will charge the 15% restock fee.

Here's more detail. Speakers are the Klipsch Ultra's. Newegg. $332.49. Found through the Hot Deals forum that Dell Small Business has them on special right now for 262.50. That's a $70 dollar difference. Boy did I have a sick feeling in my stomach this morning. So the restock fee would be about $50. If I did that I would still be ahead $20. For $20 I might as well just keep them and not go through all the hassle.

Argh..... What to do?

Thanks Riboon, I feel sorry for me too... I did read a couple of threads where you and others discussed component speaker setup vs PC speakers. But I decided I wanted PC speakers for my PC. Maybe I'll go down that road later in life. So I decided to go with one of the top-tier pc speakers and be happy in my ignorance of if components would have been the better choice. What I didn't count on was this incredible sale just days after making my purchase. Looking through all the threads I could find on Ultra pricing, the lowest price Ultra's were in the low 300's, and I thought well, if I missed out on saving about $30 bucks I could live with that. But $70 I didn't count on.

What speakers were they?

And what was the price jump between newegg and the other site?

I saw a XP-120 heatsink for $72 on newegg and 42 on SVC.

I once ordered about $800 in parts from NE, including a new 19" LCD, graphics card, and some other items. I had forgotten about my car insurance bill that was coming, so I was in a bind for cash. I called up NE and explained the situation and the rep said to refuse the FedEx boxes. As long as they aren't delivered/accepted, you won't be charged a restocking fee, since you never took them into the house. NE refunded me everything, minus s/h, which turned out to be like $5 because I chose Express Saver and it was only tacked onto the videocard purchase.

Needless to say, I was very relieved when I hung up with that rep.

Not surprising. They had good prices and good customer service when ther were new and small. No they are established and they think they can ride on their momentum and they don't have to take care of the customer.

From their FAQ:
FedEx has returned my order/package to Newegg.com. What happens now?
If the shipment is "returned to shipper", we receive the package and then credit the credit card back in full, including shipping. This will automatically generate a Return Merchandise Authorization number and the email address on that order's account will receive a notice about this merchandise that has been returned.

ALWAYS check their site

Yep, give it a few days. the order will turn into a return/credit after they verify the contents and shipping information. Like I said in my post, they will refund everything EXCEPT shipping, so in your case, you should get a full refund.

Give it time and wait for the credit! You will get an email through NewEgg saying that your credit/return has been received and that you will be credited in a day or two.
