Mostly I agree, but this particular promotion seems to be an exception unless "sorry but your SOL" works for you.

Also complaining online is one of the few things that makes merchants take notice.

i am not part of this promotion whatsoever ... i am just talking about my recent experience with them - this week and also a few weeks ago. They goofed a couple of times on overcharging my order and also made a disaster of my RMA ... but after talking nicely with a CSR - i am certain she is "local" as i got her before - they were able to adjust everything to my satisfaction.

Of course, if you start with an 'attitude' you generally won't get far with any CS ... and if your CSR is not giving you what you want, ask for a supervisor.... that has always worked for me with the 'egg before. Sometimes it takes [a lot of] time and patience to straighten things out ... NewEgg just has the best CS of any HW company for me ... consistently ... for years.

i hope you get your issues fixed with them

Fortunately I dodged this one as well, but only because I happened to take a look at this thread again before I clicked place my order & personally I've never had a problem Newegg didn't resolve for me either which is why I'll remain a customer.

The problem they have now is that many people without all the positive experience to balance this out are going to have a bad impression of them.

Pretty much the same thing that happened with me ... failure to take responsability.

Regardless of the circumstances surrounding the promo & Paypal, Newegg had the good reputation here & they are the ones taking the hit ... Paypal couldn't care less since their rep is already in the crapper.

Speaking of taking responsibility, does anyone else remember the PCConnection/Hanns-G LCD monitor rebate fiasco? Rebates brought cost down to like $100 on 19" and $80 on 17". I was in for one each, then "Wintergreen Systems" never got around to clearing out the rebates. About five-six months later they just had a recorded message (at a number you could only find by looking at the BBB complaint database for them) saying to contact PCConnection instead. When I called PCConnection they immediately recognized the problem and promptly (as in, same day) gave me a refund directly onto my CC for the entire amount of the rebate for both monitors.

Now THAT'S taking responsibility!

3.) As for complaints about their shipping, if they send you a package via UPS 3 Day and it doesn't make it in time, that's UPS hosing you, not Newegg. One should also note that orders do not always ship same day as ordered (though I've never had one fail to ...) and no where do they guarantee as such. So, once your order has shipped, if it then exceeds 3 days, call UPS. I've had orders from Newegg arrive in my city in one day, only to have UPS let it set for 2 days before they deliver it, yet I'm less than 10 miles from their main depot here. And this big promo certainly had no effect on their ship times ... I placed an order at 10:16am EST on Monday and at 10:30am Wednesday the UPS man was on my porch with my order. And note, it shipped from CA to Ohio and never even started its "journey" from CA until 10:45pm Monday night.

Actually, no it's not UPS hosing you.

Newegg made an offer to the customer, it is Newegg selling you a product with a 3 day shipping term. UPS's obligation is to Newgg, who submits the shipping order and pays the shipping. Newegg is UPS's client, not the buyer. UPS's obligation is not to Newegg's customer. IF UPS does not meet their obligation but Newegg continues to advertise 3 day shipping, Newegg is offering something they know isn't guaranteed to actually be 3 day shipping.

On the other hand, since this 3 day shipping is not offered at extra cost over other ground shipping options, we mostly excuse it even when is actually required to be there in 3 days if advertised as such. Some might say there is probably some blurb of text elsehwhere on the 'site that invalidates a 3 day guarantee, but when all is said and done if that text is hard to find and their policy page states "UPS 3Day - 3 business days + 24-48 hours to process the order", then ultimately the practice is shady at best and legally wrong to offer 3 day if they aren't being diligent to hold the shipper to that.

Aside from this factor, I generally find Newegg's order prep and shipping to be very fast and would excuse it if a 3 day package didn't come in 3 days from time of hand-off to UPS, but my being willing to accept lateness does not diminish someone else's right not to excuse it. In some instances, it is important that an item actually be delivered when needed, just the same as if you had used their 1 or 2 day shipping because you needed something even sooner.

I'll be on the phone with newegg Monday morning. I ordered a new monitor from them last week. It has a $50 rebate that requires the original UPC label from the box.

Well, in looking all over the box for the label, I noticed that Newegg conveniently cut out the side of the box that had the label. They were a bit sloppy with this too. They put a strip of cardboard to replace it and taped the hell out of it (entire side of the box was cut out and replaced).

I've never in the past had an issue with newegg, but after noticing this attempt to scam me out of $50, I will now no longer do business with them, regardless of how this rebate issue turns out.

Do you guys think that the prices will be lowered even further closer to Xmas, or this is as low as it is going to go? I like the $39.99 free shipping Rosewill case deal, but if it will be even cheaper a week from now, there's no point wasting my money. I know no one can know this for sure, but how was it last year? Was there any big price drops 1-2 weeks before Xmas?

if it is a good deal today, you will not be sorry if it is 10% cheaper tomorrow

One cannot predict accurately based on "last year" ... each year is different and only the 'egg knows what stock they want to get rid of an how well it is selling.
--For example, if they got overstocked with these cases and they do not sell well, they will discount further or change their promotion. Generally you find things that you need on a case-by-case basis.

The only thing i find hugely overpriced and expect to drop sharply - especially in comparison to big computer LCDs - is mid-small HDTVs ... i got my 16x10 Samsung 205BW at Staples in a blow-out for $135 ... the tv "tuner" is not really that expensive

That's a very fine line you're trying to draw there. That's not what Newegg is claiming at all. They don't say "you'll get this product in three days". They simply tell you what carrier and what class of service your product will be sent by.

So whats your point ... everybody should be fine with the way this was handled?

Its not the end of the world & I'll still be buying from Newegg, but that doesn't mean I'm happy about this crap ... as far as I'm concerned everyone at Newegg involved with this promotion should be ashamed of themselves.

Over the past several years, I have probably purchased in the neighborhood of $5,000 worth of components from Newegg. During the same period, I have recommended them to others amounting to purchases probably closer to $10,000. Yes, I will continue to purchase from Newegg. But I will look harder at other options, and I will be slower to recommend Newegg to others. They really gave themselves a black eye with this screw-up.

You don't look around before making a purchase? Oh man....lol

There's important information in there like, and I'm paraphrasing, "We have the right to cancel at any time for any reason" and "Until supply has run out".

It doesnt really matter.

I've been shopping at the egg forever. I actually remeber talkin to CS people that were actually located in the US when you called! Now the egg is all about bad packaging, scam dynamic pricing and slooooow shipping. Now we have scandalous rebates and newegg changing the expiration date on a banner. I do enjoy people saying dont trust the egg though, make sure you read the fine print. Who the F would want to deal with a company they cant trust?

I bought a q6600 and a few other things totalling like $435.00 . Ill accept my stuff and the fact I saved no money and lost some time. From now on unless its a screaming deal Ill wait for a deal at frys or shop at ZZF or something .

The egg sucks now. I pretty much lump them in with tiger direct and will steer people away from them every chance I get.

Why the fvck are you letting them do this to you? Refuse the package or send it back :|

Are you serious?!?!? Did they send in the rebate themselves and act like nothing happened? Wow.

Don't let this stop you from continuing to support Newegg's crappy attitude towards their customers

Apparently Newegg is going to at least partially make good on the 20% rebate ... sounds to me like the solution is "a day late & a dollar short" because many customers are still going to be left out in the cold:

Heres the important part of the e-mail I just received:

We would like to offer our sincerest apologies for the recent Paypal promo confusion. The promotion officially ended at 2:30 pm PST on Monday Nov. 26th, but we would now like to inform you that we will honor 20% off all confirmed Paypal orders placed up until 5:30 pm PST that same day. You successfully placed your order before the 5:30 pm PST cut off, so we will take it upon ourselves to reimburse your Paypal account 20% of your orders amount; up to a maximum amount of $50.00. Please allow 3-5 business days for the refund to fully process and appear back onto your Paypal account.

Looks like I'll be getting my $2.80 rebate.

It's not a fine line, you are not paying for *whatever happens*. Similarly, if UPS damages your shipment it is not your burden to collect from UPS, if Newegg ships the wrong thing or UPS delivers the wrong package to you it is again not your burden to do more than seek resolution from Newegg. Newegg has all the burden to deliver the goods by all terms advertised. Not understanding that does not make it a fine line, it means you did not understand the chain of obligation or more simply, that your purchase agreement was never with UPS it was with Newegg.
