I'm more annoyed at the fact that I tried multiple times to places orders DURING the promotion (before they artificially ended it), and their site continually told me that they could not process PayPal orders at that time and to check out with a different method.

They lost a very large sale.

4. Newegg CSR's provided contradicting information, telling people to refuse shipments b/c they weren't eligible for the promotion but now they are eligible. Well it's too late b/c they already refused shipment

Other stores that ran the same promotion - placed in their ad that the promotion was only for a limited number of uses or total dollar allowance, Newegg did not

That's where they screwed up.

Sounds like sour grapes to me.

A company can't change its mind about an special discount offer? As much as I'm annoyed that they stopped it early - I couldn't place my order till that evening and therefore missed out getting $200 or $250 back on a > $1k order - I believe it was within their rights to do so and don't hold a grudge against them for it (and in fact, still bought $500 of stuff knowing that I wasn't getting the discount).

 Newegg. Better late than never for those lucky enough to get the deal. Just do better next time.

Marc

Max back per person during the promotion was $50

I made a small order in the morning, about 150.. and was going to follow up with a 2nd order of 100... But by the time I go home it was over...

Do we have to contact newegg to get our refund, or is it automatically taken care of?

I look on newegg and paypal and see no such info for me. Sigh I ordered my stuff around 9a-11a that morning.

EDIT: I got the initial order email at 9:31am.

 to Newegg!!!

 to NewEgg.

It took them a week to cook up a half measure. Their lies, stonewalling and contradictiory info over the last week has left people in the dark. People have had funds tied up while not knowing where they stand and they've been instructed to refuse delivery on orders that really were covered. Worst of all, this lame "we've got you covered" promo hides the fact that they really don't have people covered. They entended the cutoff for 3 hours, big whoop. That does NOTHING for the people who ordered after that yet-again artificially imposed deadline. A whole lot of people placed orders after the new deadline expecting them to be part of the promo and those people are still just as out of luck as they have been for the last week. All NewEgg did here was slightly reduce the number of people that THEY screwed. Despite the wording on the lame graphics not everyone is "covered". It's not even close to everyone. A lot of people here have been damaged financially by NewEggs mistakes and NewEgg did nothing for them. So lets hold off on the cheering.

FYI your the customer that no one wants, IE you will never be satisfied.

*exactly*
-- i am sure you don't give a crap for the "other people" who placed orders after 5.30 PM ... but if you really do care about "principle" tell NewEgg to shove their 20% refund up their butts - refuse it - and take it to court.

... and make sure - in future - you chose TigerDirect ... you will get the service you deserve

WOW! Is there any way to block users?

i'd still say newegg is one of the better online retailers, but i think over the last year or 2 they have fallen off the "greatest retailer ever" spot.

with the no returns policies on monitors, the non combined shipping, etc.... i think now they are just one retailer in your "rotation" that you check for the best prices, whereas when they first appeared you basically could just buy everything there and probably woudl have gotten the best deal on it.

Just my observations but the email I got said:

"Cash back offer is for up to $50 per PayPal account and good for a limited time only. Offer is only available as long as the merchant's website indicates that the 20% cash back promotion is offered, but no later than December 10, 2007 11:59:59 PM PT"

This tells me that the merchants can stop the promotion anytime they want regardless of what Paypal says on their site. As soon as newegg took the promotion sign down it was no good anymore. I like that they are giving 20% back to folks who don't really deserve it for the confusion that is really paypals fault but I don't think they are in the wrong for the most part.

That "for the most part" refers to the CSR's who had no idea what was gonig on and gave out bogus info.

They actually do combine shipping depending on the item. Stuff like monitors and cases which ship in the retail box (boo hiss) don't combine, but other stuff does combine. However, they don't combine enough. Their reasoning is that items may ship from different warehouses (CA, TN, NJ). Nevertheless, shipping is part of my overall cost and I keep that in mind when placing orders.

There are plenty of other reputable retailers in my own "rotation" and I'll shop for best price, unless it is for an item that I for whatever reason want a warranty on and the manufacturer has a no-endusers policy.

Newegg ran the ad, and from what I can tell never mentioned anything about a order limit. Was it Neweggs fault, or was it Paypals? We'll probably never know. Did Paypal tell them that there was a limit, if not then if I was Newegg, I would sue Paypal and refund the 20% back to the customers. If they did know, then they need to bite the bullet and refund. I'm guessing that Newegg did know, I mean how could you enter into a promotion with another company and not have all the limitations.

I was lucky enough to have made my purchase prior to 5, so I'll get what's owed to me. But anyone outside the timeframe and before the 28th should be pissed. I didn't know that the newegg promo was canceled until days later.

Exactly. Since Newegg did not put in the verbage stating that the offer was only good for the first xxx amount of dollars allocated to Newegg, they should take 20% off all Paypal orders until 11/28.

And how come they are only offering 20% to the orders placed between 2:30 and 5:30pm. That's so bogus.

I ordered $480 worth of stuff that morning, around 10:30am, during the promotion. I received no such email. Are they only emailing people who bought from 2:30 to 5:30, and if so will those of us who purchased in the morning that day be reimbursed? do we need to call? I never heard word 1 from either Newegg or Paypal on this.

That's why I only order with AMEX Blue. I can call them up and they'll at least get me my money back. Best part is that they'll return the funds to me within a few hours of the time that I call and sort the rest out with the vendor afterward.

yeah, i'm confused on this too.. I was under the thought that it was a limit of $250 purchase($50 refund) that would be credited back to your paypal account sometime in january.. is this still correct, or do i need to call newegg about having them refund directly within the 3-5 days?

Why *don't* you call and let us know what NewEgg CS is really like?
-Live Chat is also a good way to get a CSR and you can keep a record of the transcript if you C&P.

Everything I have heard is that you will get reimbursed straight from paypal.

Don't be such crybabies, think of all the deals you've got from NewEgg, and their customer service is solid, atleast with my six years of business it has been. Everything will work itself out and I'm sure you'll all get refunded in some manner or another. It'll just take a little time (just like that refund coming the end of January)? Clearly someone made a pretty large mistake.

If you did not get the email, contact Newegg @ (800) 390-1119. We should be somewhat thankful they care enough to step forward. Other retailers who backed out, will not be reimbursing anyone. Can't speak for all those who are upset by this, Newegg is still awesome to me. My .02 cents on this.

It was made very clear that the promo could end at any time. I went by if the webpage was still showing the 20%off link. I clicked the link so I expect to get the 20%. If the link was gone before 5:30 then newegg did good. If it was up after then, newegg or more properly, paypal should pay up.
