Personally I think Paypal is the sleazy one here, Dell and Overstock pulled out of this deal early too. I don't think Newegg is so much da sheeit that everyone makes them out to be, as they edit honest criticism of their operations (shoddy packaging) from their reviews (my experience anyway)

So, what happens if we don't get anything from either Newegg or Paypal, yet we placed our orders successfully that morning using Paypal? Do we wait until the end of January before pursuing it further?

I would contact Paypal. I didn't expect anything til January but was happily surprised when I got my rebate last week.

That's great. Your one of those people that would step over a nickel to pick up a penny eh? You're also one of those people that is selling our nation out to China because you would rather save 5cents and get an inferior product than get something made in the US. Don't worry, you aren't alone, a significant number of Americans have your same spending habits. It's a critical factor of the success of ebay in that the people think getting the deal is more important than getting a good product.

Trying to brag or show how responsible you are when you have that whine in your 2nd to last paragraph?

Quit referencing some fine print as nearly every advertisement/sale/deal states the same thing. "We have the right to do what we want, how we want, when we want."
That "fine print" as you call it was a critical piece of the promotion. Given last years fiasco I'm surprised that you, a self proclaimed super-bargain shopper is making the claim that fine print doesn't mean anything and that because YOU didn't read it or pay attention that somehow that makes everything NE's fault. I myself believe in personal responsibility. I also witnessed last years fiasco and new better than to try to participate in this years fiasco. Beyond that I read fine print because I realize the fine print is where ALL the important details are. Someone as smart of a bargain shopper as you claim to be should know that.

That doesn't mean we should be happy when NewEgg exercises that right. It also has the right to charge $100 shipping on every item, does that mean we should be happy about that too?
Nope, but it doesn't mean you can claim ignorance if they do start charging $100 on every item. Just like you can't claim ignorance here for ignoring the "fine print" (it actually wasn't that fine).

All I want is the deal that was offered. I saw it was a 2 day sale in the morning before work. YES! Some of us have to work, are responsible for projects and people, and can't surf the internet for "deals." Well, I came home from work to see the 2 day sale had ended.
Want some cheese with that? Are you adult? That whine is as heartfelt as I've seen 4-6 year old children do. You truly admit that you feel disadvantaged in life because you can't sit home and watch for "hot deals". I can't tell you how pathetic I find whining about something so incredibly trivial.

It is PayPals fault, but it's also NewEggs for not knowing what it was getting itself into. I got the email advertising this fiasco FROM NEWEGG! NOT PAYPAL.
You are also responsible (hard to comprehend that you might have had a role in this too isn't it), for not paying attention to the fine print saying the promotion could end at any moment. And given last years fiasco you should have KNOWN it would happen again. So lets put the blame where it lies, first with Paypal, second with you, and third with NewEgg. I'm willing to bet you can't accept that you did anything wrong, given your statements you truly believe you are an innocent victim. Anyone with an ounce of brains knew that this thing was going to be hit or miss with NewEgg's volume. And for all your screaming of financial hardship etc... and then claiming you could quit work for a year you present yourself as one heck of a baby.

And to everyone else, if $50 is a financial hardship you shouldn't be spending $250 on computer gear. Seriously, if that $50 creates some hardship for you then you need to re-evaluate your priorities in life, because IMO they are messed up.
