Newegg selling Fake Intel CPUs

It's possible its a scam. By the purchaser.
It would be interesting to see what Newegg and UPS recorded for the weight of the package.

A cpu box isn't very heavy to begin with... not that the weight can't be tampered with anyway.

If you bother to have read the overclockers.com thread, you'll note that there's more than one person that received these.

Definitely a supplier issue. Apparently a shipment of 2000 CPUs had 300 fakes. Newegg has approved RMAs, removed the fakes from stock, and is looking into the issue.

Newegg does in fact, source their parts from various distributors. My girlfriend works there. She said that the parts came in a lot of about 300 pieces, all of which were fake. You also have to understand that MOST of the people that work in their warehouses dont speak much English. The same kind of people that would write SOCHET on a fake CPU box. She said they got the problem taken care of. All of the fake processors were in the same shipment and have been removed from stock. Its NOT an inside job. They all came from a distributor like that....possible that its an inside job there though.....

Im sorry. I misspoke earlier. Out of 2000 they got in the shipment, she said that 300 were fake. Theyve all been removed from the warehouse. They are investigating with the distributor. They came from the distributor this way. It was not an inside job....at least at Newegg.

Guy is not too bright. Also, the video is uploaded as 720p but is pretty poor quality and out of focus. The pics at the overclockers.com thread in the OP is probably the best look at this I've seen so far.

I didn't notice at first but the guy that posted his vid at YouTube posted an update in the comments that "newegg is refunding the cpu/mb & will ship replacements"

Pretty generous by Newegg IMO since even assuming what he is saying is completely true it seems any damage to his motherboard is completely his fault. It's just insane to me to put that fake in an LGA 1366. I mean, what do you think is going to happen if you put what is effectively a flat metal plate on a bunch of pins.

Did any of you guys see the fake Kingston SD cards?

They were manufactured in the Kingston factory. Apparently a "ghost shift" of workers came in at night and made SD cards with the defective materials.
