Newegg selling used item as new????

I recently purchase the above monitor during their $20 off promo. At the time, they also had the same item listed as Open Box, of course I decided to buy it new instead of taking a risk.

The item arrived on Friday via UPS, and a family member signed for it before I'd a chance to inspect the box. It had several wear & tear on the corners (but I guess that's to be expected), plus it has several of those heavy duty staples on the side of it.

In addition, even though all the packaging are intact, I'd notice there were several minor scruffs/scratches on the bottom of the Mounting Base. And the serial sticker on it had a pen mark.

Does anyone know if this is normal? I'd never bought a big item like this on newegg, only hard drives, burners, dvd-r. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt, but the strange coincidence is the Open Box listing was taken off their website right after I bought it.

Forget how the base looks for a second ... does it work? Call Samsung to see if it has ever been registered (I assume it has a 3 year warranty). Newegg is very good about these things. If you believe it is used I am sure they will allow a return .. at whose cost I do not know.

OP bought it new, not refurbished. Take a picture and email Newegg customer service. They are extremely helpful.

Did the monitor still have that plastic film attached to it? Dunno about Samsung monitors, but my Asus monitor was covered with the film (not just the screen) and the lack of it might be a good indicator that it was used.

The picker most likely just grabbed the OB item instead of the new. Call Newegg and explain. They will help you out.

The monitor works, my idiot brother already tested it out. Will Newegg still take the item back? I'm checking whether it's registered or not.

The film attached only around the bezel, not on the screen.

Contact Newegg and talk with them, they've been very good with me when I've had to have stuff clarified, even got some good discounts for my troubles.

At this point, first thing to do is check the warranty status with the maker of the unit. If you still have the full warranty term, don't worry about it. It does work properly, right ? Now if there are issues and the warranty is not full or in force, then action needs to be taken. But I would also take some pics and call Newegg and explain that you think they sent out the "open box unit" and if they did, you want the cost difference back.

Just call them or talk to them online and explain to them that it doesn't appear new. Probably just a mixup at the warehouse. Perhaps the person who bought the open-box version is enjoying your brand new monitor now.

You paid for new, you should get new.

I ordered a new 5770 a few months ago from them, the item arrived missing the hdmi to dvi converter, I sent it back when I noticed the item originally shipped from the RMA warehouse.

I'd check with newegg first via email, they haven't reply back yet. I just wanted to check with forum members at the same time. This is the only tech site I visit, I thought I wouldn't hurt to ask.

It was on the original shipping package that showed the address that the package was sent from. The label itself said, RMA warehouse on it.

Because that's the return address on the label in case you decline to accept the package. /rolleyes
