I have been purchasing from Newegg since December 2001. I have spent close to $70k with them in that time frame (I build and re-sell systems). The products I have ordered and received have always been brand new. I have NEVER received a used item. They very FEW times I have had problems with an item, they quickly issued an RMA and as soon as they received it issued a refund or shipped the replacement item to me.

I think in my experience with newegg the thing that annoyed me the most, is that it nor o9nly took them forever to sen dout my replacement, but even after 3 unaswered e-mails and a phone call, there was no apology or even AKNOWLEDGEMENT of a problem.

I would have been happy with even a " Sorry we took so long, our bad"

but nothing. That just sucks.

I'm so freaked out now about NewEgg...I was going to just buy a new computer when my mobo crashed but a lot of people told me I could do WAY better to just buy components from NewEgg. Well, I am in "stage 2" after waiting two full days for address verification and probably won't see my stuff by Friday which I had my heart set on. Anyway, I ordered an Intel BOXD865PERL Retail motherboard (among other things) and I hope it comes new because although I can use this computer at work I want "mine" and I don't want to deal with any used crap or having to wait. Aaahhhh, I was just freaking out before with the waiting now I'm freaking out in case it's used or damamged...:wine:

I have learned to ALWAYS pay for rush processing with newegg. They used to ship my stuff same day without it, now it takes 2 or 3 days.

But now when I pay for rush processing, they get it out the door same day. It's worth 3 dollars... come on. thats less than lunch at subway

I would have liked to do the rush processing but the bill to and ship to were different addresses and it said I wouldn't be able to do it. But it's all good because on the FedEx route I'm in Vegas and they shipped from LA and it's a 1-day ship so I'm getting everything today, yay, I want to cry! I am so excited to get my new stuff!!!!!

Yay!!! Everything I ordered came today, the box for the processor was a little bent on a corner but it was sealed and was not moving around inside. The case I ordered has definately been taken out of the original packaging, as there was a very noticeable black smudge on it. As well as the bottom of one side being misaligned. Hopefully it'll be ok because I don't want to send it back and wait for a new one. This is what I got though...

Aspire X Dreamer II Beige ATX case (it's kinda big but looks super cool, too bad they didn't have the colors available) the PSU is 350w and it has a sticker saying it's ok for P4

Mobo-Intel P4 BOXD865PERL Retail (supports hyperthreading) -factory sealed, has the 800FSB capability, 865PE chipset, and is DDR400 supported

CPU P4/2.8CGHz 800MHz, 512K Cache hyper thread processor (I have no clue what the CGHz means), it is also described as Pentium 4 Northwood? It came in a retail box too so I got the heatsink and fan with it

Corsair "Value Select" DDRAM PC3200 512MB x 2 = 1GB total memory (matched 512 pair kit), it was rated 5 star

Sound Blaster Live PCI card (for dirt cheap just to have something)

Creative 2pc speakers with subwoofer -low end since my extremely low end ones broke

and Windows XP Pro full version

Total= $792.00 (not bad)

My socket 7 mobo with AMD K6-500 (256MB ram) board died so this is a massive upgrade for me. I hope all goes well since I will be doing this myself. I have an 80gig WD HD to connect and a CD, CDR/W, and regular disk drive from my old PC. I am also going from Windows Me to XP (YAY!!!) I bought a cheap GeForce PCI video card before my original comp died so I have that to put in also. I'm terrified and excited at the same time. Tonight I'll stop off at the electronics store and get the static guard stuff I need. Maybe my next post will be from home instead of work!

Hey that sounds like a great system build. Have fun! let us know if you need any help.

Do you plan on doing much gaming? You might want to consider picking up an AGP card!

Newegg has shipped out my RMA. They shipped it from New Jersey and I'm in NY. But the weird thing is that they shipped it from Jersey to California. Why would they ship it to California before they ship it to NY??? It went from Edison, NJ - Newark, NJ - and now its at Oakland, CA.

Well, since my other computer was SO old and wasn't upgradeable I haven't even had a chance to consider the gaming possibilities yet. But for right now I'm going to just enjoy having this new one. Eventually I was thinking of investing in a Radeon? AGP card. And I wanted then to upgrade my sound card too, but later...much later...after I recover financially from this.

I put everything together last night though. It was SOOOOOO hard too. There wasn't really much of a guide saying, put this there, plug that there, this means this. But, I managed to get everything together and turned it on and had terrible problems after that. Although everything was installed correctly, it was reading Win Me off my HD and only going into "safe mode". My CD Drives which were detected in BIOS weren't coming up. My floppy drive wouldn't read. I didn't know what was wrong.

It wasn't until after I went to bed, brought everything to work, and tried to think again this morning about it that I figured it out. My jumper on the board was set to normal instead of configure, so I worked that out so when it booted it would read directly from my CD drive where I have XP waiting to be fully installed. And now it is! Yay! So tonight I have to install all my old programs and connect to the net to get all the XP updates but I am so happy it works and that I didn't break anything.

Also (regarding the actual topic), I took a closer look at my box from NewEgg for my case and it looks like it was dropped. However, it's hard to say whether it was their fault or happened during shipping. But the damamge to the case amounts to one side being misaligned and one of the back card slot things being bent slightly. Not enough damage to bother sending back. It's also a little weird not to get things in orginal packaging like my sound card. I hope that isn't damamged from them boxing it with my memory and squishing the little things that stick out. When I get the drivers installed and speakers hooked up I'll know then. Overall, I have had a very good experience with NewEgg. I give them an 8 (out of 10) -because of the trouble I dealt with over the address verification.

Newegg sells a lot of OEM stuff. Which means you won't get the pretty packages like you do when you buy items retail. For people like me, this means less stuff to pitch when a project is complete.
Also, I know this may be off topic, but it sounds like you took the hard drive out of your old system and are going to do an upgrade/install over the top of ME? I, and many others here, would advise against that, if I were you I would start with a completely new install (ie. format the hard drive). There's a lot of garbage installed on your hard drive that is not needed anymore (chipset drivers, etc.).

Aaack, I didn't know to do that and I didn't reformat, which would probably explain the significant amount of lost hard drive space. Is it too late to go back and do it, and if so, how do I? I noticed XP (or probably me somehow) split my hard drive into two sections, drive C & D. I don't know how or why. But combined, it's still less than 80gigs. I just want one hard drive for all of my stuff that equals close to it's original worth... If I can reformat, will the fact that I registered my copy of XP online screw anything up if I have to reinstall it on the HD? THANKS

no its not a problem. at the worst you will just have to call them to reactivate. not a big deal at all. Anyway, go ahead and back up whatever you need to, and then reinstall windows. Boot with the CD, and it will give you options, you want to choose to install anyway, but then it will give you an option to format your drive. Format the drive and there you go

Actually, I think that's what I tried to do originally... it said a certain portion was corrupt during the install so I selected the other portion it showed and then installed. When I got home last night I checked to see what format the C & D drives were and it was NTFS. I guess it just couldn't write over the Me portion of the drive because it really was corrupt. Hmm...

Well, why do you have your drive in 2 partions? If the XP setup saw it that way, it was that way before. You need to wipe the disk clean. use a DOS boot disk and use FDISK to delete all partitions and then create one new one.

I have no idea why I have partitions. I don't know enough yet to figure it out. I'm amazed I even got a computer put together at all. But I think my floppy? disk drive is broken so I'll have to get a new one. Plus I don't even know if I have a DOS boot disk / or exactly what it is. Is it the disk that came with my hard drive? Or is the one I made for Me what you mean, or should I make a disk from XP? Or is that the recovery disk and has nothing to do with what you're talking about? See, I have no clue...I really thought I could just hook up my hard drive and after doing the initial BIOS configuration on my settings let it boot direct from the XP CD and everything would be fine. Clearly I was wrong. But I want to learn and understand so I don't sound so dumb.

bootdisk.com get a dos 6.2 or 6.22 boot disk, boot and use FDISK. Delete all partitions, then create one big partition with all the space. Then reboot with your XP cd, and install windows.

make sure to back up anything you want to keep first

I bought a floppy drive last night and made the boot disk but ...sigh... I don't know what FDISK is. I'll look around the board to see if there's any posts.

Edit: I searched around some more and found out that I don't need the FDISK or boot disk. I guess I can just configure the BIOS to boot directly to the XP cd to run setup and it will bring up my partitions and I can delete them from there and start fresh and do the regular NTFS install (not the quick one) and it will work. I'm just going to delete all the partitions and create one big "C" drive like I had before. The not-quick install will sort through and correct whatever was corrupted too I think. Hopefully this works, it sounds like it will. THANK YOU for all of your help!!!

FDISK is a utility that allows you to set up partitions on a hard drive. Just type in FDISK at the command prompt, and it will run. (it should be on your boot disk, the boot disk makers I sent you a link to put it on there automatically).

You don't need FDISK anymore like you used to. FDISK is part of the dos setup portion of Windows XP and you can do everything there that FDISK did.
