I am working to put together my new build. I want to place the order tonight, but could hold out a day or two if Newegg doesn't process/ship on Saturdays. That way I can do some more shopping and wait for an XFX 4870 1GB to come back instock.

Do they process/ship on Saturdays?

It doesn't matter if they do or not, for transit time purposes it's the same as if it were shipped out on Monday even if it gets in UPS or Fedex's possession before then.

It will get shipped out on Monday, UPS/FedEx only ship Mon-Fri, so if you order now, you will ship out earlier on monday morning.

They don't work on weekends - as explicitly stated on their site. For the most part, any order received by ~11am-2pm, depending on timezone, will go out the same day - monday-friday. Expedited order processing (for a fee) is a waste. I've always used the cheapest shipping (ups) and get it 99% in two business days (and not in a state with one of their warehouses).

There's no good reason to wait to place an order.

I wish my packages still did that. When I lived in NYC, they used to ship things 3-day UPS from California, and I'd still usually get it within 2 days. Now that I live in Chicago, everything's gone completely downhill with UPS, even though I'm now closer to every NewEgg shipping center except the NJ one. They once received a package well over a day early at a local distribution center 5 miles away from me, then actually left it sitting in the warehouse an extra day just so that it wouldn't be delivered before the third day. And this isn't even mentioning that my last shipment of two packages came so dented that the box was almost ripped apart.

I wish NewEgg would go back to just offering FedEx at a reasonable price. I've only had one problem with them, and that was years ago (a FedEx employee packaged up my desktop computer to ship across the country, and when I received it, the side was completely dented in with the video card halfway across the box - though all I had to do was call them up, and they sent someone to where I was staying, took one look at it, and sent me a check the next day). Not to mention that UPS seems to see the signature confirmation requirement as merely advisory, leaving expensive packages at the base of my apartment building's stairs, while steadfastly holding me to the signature requirement for tiny, unimportant packages.

</end rant>

How do you know this? Did you report it to newegg headquarters?

well, I have had packages come early but that's a rarity. Once they set a schedule delivery date it will 90% come on that day regardless if it gets to your distribution center earlier.

LOL, report what? They paid for 3 day shipping, they got 3 day shipping.

So, let me get this straight. You're advocating sitting on shipments when they happen to be ahead of schedule. That sounds pissy and vindictive.

Newegg threw away some no-cost goodwill.

I knew this because I tracked it online, and I saw the arrival time at my local UPS distribution center way ahead of time. However, it didn't get marked as "out for delivery" until another day, even though it was at the distribution center in plenty of time to be put on a truck the second day.

As for reporting it, of course I'm not going to, since they did indeed say 3 days, and I got it in that 3 day period. However, just because they can hold it an extra day doesn't mean that I think they should. Like I mentioned, they were able to handle delivering it early in NYC, a much larger area, so I would like to think that the Chicago center could do it just as well.

Either way, I wouldn't be as upset if not for the fact that, as I mentioned, the Chicago UPS center has badly dented almost every box I've had sent to me.

To use days for examples:

NewEgg ships package out to me on Monday afternoon.

The local UPS distribution center (I know where it is, and it's not far from me at all) shows an arrival scan Tuesday evening (around 10PM) of the package.

Normally in my area, if a package arrives by 1AM on a certain day (in this case, Wednesday by 1AM), it gets put on a truck in the morning to be delivered. However, in this case, UPS lets it sit in the warehouse all Wednesday (remember, it showed that it arrived there Tuesday night), then marks it as out for delivery on Thursday, the third day, which is when I receive it.

So, if they had more than 8 hours to put it on a truck for Wednesday, why couldn't they do it that day? In NYC, I sometimes had packages arrive at a distribution center across the river in NJ at 3AM, and it would still be on a truck a couple of hours later, even if it was a day early.

Ok. I wouldn't compare shipping areas with each other - too many variables. I didn't think you were complaining about when you got it - just the possibility that it could have been delivered earlier. If you have firm evidence, I still think you should let newegg know about this. I imagine that they have some clout when it comes to shippers and that they wouldn't be happy that their shipments are sitting in warehouses - just cause.

btw, the online tracking is sometimes inaccurate.

If it happens again, I might consider it. I'll be the first to admit that I was more than a bit spoiled when I lived in New York, since the NewEgg warehouse in NJ would often ship things to me, and it'd arrive overnight, since it only had to go 20 miles or so. As long as things arrive within the guaranteed amount of time, I'm still happy overall.

I definitely understand that, while UPS has a unified identity, distribution centers in different regions and cities have different ways of doing things. I wouldn't complain at all if it was an isolated incident in what was otherwise a decent pattern. However, it just seems that there's a lot of endemic problems in Chicago's UPS system that hasn't happened with FedEx.

Dented boxes all over the place. Rude deliverymen. Hell, the FedEx guy has on occasion walked up three flights of stairs to my apartment to deliver important packages right into my hands. The UPS guy, on the other hand, recently dumped a pile of packages with computer parts onto the stairway and was halfway down the street before I made it downstairs. On top of that, he marked it in the tracking system as having been signed for by me, even though I would've complained about the condition of the boxes before signing anything.
