"Managers Special" at Newegg.com. This is essentially the same case as the Antec 1030SX. Comes with an Enhance power supply -- AMD approved up to XP 2000+

Shipping is $18, but that's not bad for a case and still puts this great case at your house for $87.

Get em while they last. Link

Product Page

EDIT -- Originally black -- now all colors are $69. Link has been edited.

Does not include case fans. (Which was fine with me, cause I usually swap out those loud OEM fans for Panaflows anyway )

I've got a few questions about this case if anyone can help me. What is the difference between the Antec power supply and the Enhance power supply (coming with the Chieftec cases).

Also, I noticed the Antec case comes with some case fans. Do these Chieftec cases come with case fans too? Looking for Chieftec on Newegg.com I noticed that the normal pricing of the case mentions no case fans! That might make the Antec cases a better deal since they'll come with 3 fans, and they come with an Antec Power Supply which I hear are highly recommended and pretty good. Also the Antec comes in a retail box.

The Antec case happens to cost 88+19s/h=$107
The Chieftec case happens to cost 69+18s/h=$87
For 20 dollars, the difference is Antec p/s and 3 case fans, and retail box.

What are some people's opinions?

P.S. If the chieftec cases won't have fans, what size fans will they need? I happen to have 2 spare 80mm silencer fans to use. I could also buy some cheap Panaflos mentioned in other deals in this forum.

Tjames214,

All things being considered I would go witht the Enermax, FS-710 for $7 more then the Antec. It's the same case as both the Antec and Cheiftec but with a much better power supply. It has a 330 watt Enermat dual fan PS, 3 ball bearing fans with 3 to 4 pin adapters and is only $114 shipped black or beige. Take a look at the FS-710 at Newegg under Enermax and take a close look at the P/S, very high quality. I use these cases for system builds and have yet to have any problems with the Enermax PS.

tjames:

I don't know whether the Chieftech case comes with case fans. I would guess it doesn't, but you could email Newegg and find out for sure.

I have purchased and built two systems at work using the Antec 1030X case. The two I purchased each came with two basic, brushless 80mm case fans. The fans are louder than most quality 3rd party fans, but not to the level of annoying. Both cases have mounting hardware for 4 80mm casefans -- two lower-front and two upper-rear. As far as the Antec power supply, it's certainly a good one, but I've also built Athlon systems around the 300w Enhance power supplies and have had no problems. Both supplies are AMD/P4 approved throughout the range of processors.

Hope some of this helps.

Enhance makes good power supplies eqivalent to Antec or Enermax, they are what comes in Fong Kai units. They were mention in a AT article because they were sent as a replacement for a ps that was failing to deliver the rated wattage.

I bought a 350W Enhance from newegg a few months back and it runs my rig just fine.

I bought the 45+15 shipping Cheiftech beige a month ago. It comes with one 80mm fan.
It was fairly loud, too.

Excellent case, BTW. My only complaint is the way you have to angle a screwdriver to get at the screws that hold in the cards. What a pain in the ass that was! Also, there's no removable mobo tray, but thats a minor detail.

Anyone used the FS-980 from Enermax? What's with all of the lights down the right-side of the front. Kinda like that case.

I also bought that case, but I got in on the black one . In any case (no pun intended), mine came with 2 case fans. So maybe I was just lucky? Or maybe it was cause they liekd the black one better.... Gotta love this case though. It's hecka loud, but hey I always wanted to own jet simulated engine sound in my room .

Plus do you guys know where I can buy one of those fans that suck air out from right on top of the cpu? Liek the one with the funnel and stuff. Always wanted one of those bad boys.

i also go the beige chieftec from newegg about a month ago.. the case is hugeeee!!! it won't even fit into my desk's comp rack. mine came with 2 sunon case fan tho. there're now 7 fans in the case. this beast sounds like a vacuum cleaner whenever i turn it on. but u gotta love the spacious interior and all those hidden 3'5 bays for my raid.

I really wish newegg.com would restock on that $45 barebone Chieftec case again. I emailed them about it and this is what they had to say:

Hi,

Just a quick question regarding a case. I looked at the newegg.com site and I notice that you no longer have the Chieftec standalone Server Chassis listed. That is the barebone case itself without all the extras like PSU or case fans. Can you please give me an ETA on when it will be available again or whether you stopped carrying that product for good? I was going to purchase one from your site before it disappeared. A prompt reply is appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Victor

Not very helpful on their part. I even asked them if they could at least tell me if they're planning on carrying it in the future. But they just replied with "they do not have information on that".

Holy crap, I orderd my case Sunday and got it today!! I live on the east coast, and only paid for Fedex Saver ground shipping. Newegg kicks a$$! On the downside, no case fans for me.. no worries though, got my L1A Panaflo's coming in soon

watch out on buying components for this baby...black components cost much more than their beige counterparts.

BTW .. if you live in the bay area you can go to Chenmings HQ in Union City and pick up a case for $43 out the door! I bought 2 for $84!!!

Chenming makes the equivalent to Antec SX1030..plus mine came with 2 Sunon case fans.

<< hey nuke is this by any chance the charcoal or the jetblack color? >>

Yeah, I would like to know about that also. Is this case pure charcoal black or is it more of the gray black kind? According to the picture's on the newegg site, it looks more gray black to me.

Thanx

Since ya'll be askin. I went and searched for my password and decided to post. I order a Cheiftech case about 3 weeks ago, and to cut to the chase, it is charcol-colored. Kinda sucks, like my Antec 1040B that I order last month from a different company. They say black, but they never cease to dissappoint me.

that's very nice but I need to know if the deal for *this* case is charcoal black or not. Can those of you got ordered and got this case confirm it's pure black charcoal color?

Thanx

did any of you guys notice in the description of this case it indicates ibm black. wonder if this case was made for ibm? or does anybody know what a ibm black case look's like?

if you don't like the color you can always paint it with a barbecue pit black color, that's a cool color, get it at automotive stores like pep boys.

IBM black is usually termed "Stealth Black". However, this case does not look like either IBM servers or IBM desktops. I think the term "IBM Black" came about since IBM was the first manufacturer to make black computers (about 8 or 9 years ago).

Hey guys, sorry for the delay. The color is the same as my buds Antec 1040B. I am horrible at comparing colors, so I'll leave it at that. It's definatly not 100% black tho....
BTW, my buds Antec case had something interesting in it. The rails for the 5 1/4 bays had "CHIEFTEC" stamped on them
