<< Hey guys, sorry for the delay. The color is the same as my buds Antec 1040B. I am horrible at comparing colors, so I'll leave it at that. It's definatly not 100% black tho....
BTW, my buds Antec case had something interesting in it. The rails for the 5 1/4 bays had "CHIEFTEC" stamped on them

You wouldn't happen to have a digital camera on you so you can take a pic of your new chieftec case?
Are the pictures newegg shows on their site accurate on what color the case really is? Oh yeah, are you using that 300w enhance PSU that comes with the case? Can you give us the read outs you're getting on your 3.3 and 5 rails and how much stuff it's powering? According to the specs' this PSU's TCO is equal to the enermax 400watt! Does that mean this PSU is just as good as that? If it is, this is definitely a hot deal.

Thanx a bunch

Great Wolf,

I do have a digicam, but my mother-in-law is borrowing it today I'll take some when I get the cam back tomorrow. The pics on neweggs site are pretty close to the color of this case, and after looking at it for a bit, it looks darker than the charcol/lighter grey cases I've seen. I don't plan on using the enhance PSU, as I am transfering everything out of my old and trusty Antec KS-188 (including the Enermax 431w whisper PSU) If I get the chance, I'll post some voltages before I switch out the PSU. I am waiting on some case fans to arrive though, so I may not get this puppy up and running 'til early next week.

Got the case. No fans though. Damn Newegg didn't mention that on the site.

Secondly, the power supply case warranty paper sticker is already cracked :Q

Do you guys think it is refurb? How about all who got the same case?

Even my faceplates were wacked out of their sockets. But luckily not broken.

Also, another thing, my case doesn't have the side panel fan slot as displayed on the Chieftech site. For some reason Newegg doesn't have that side of the case displayed.

and one of the panel covers for the cards (at the PC back side) is also missing.

How about others?

That's bad news. It isn't like newegg to sell defective/broken merchandise. Now this deal is starting to go cold
might have to reconsider jumping in on this deal. Can you report this to newegg and get them to RMA you another case? I wonder if they cover RMA ship back charges.

I wasn't aware that they had a side panel fan slot. Do you mean the 2 fans that's on the rear of the case above the expansion slots?

I called up Newegg. They said inspite of the broken seal, the PS should work fine. If it doesn't work fine, then I can call them back for a RMA. Also, I queried about the warranty then, since the seal is broken. They mentioned since they are responsible for the warranty, they (and not Chieftec) will replace if anything does go bad within a year.

So now I am going to plug-in everything and see.

The side fan is an additional fan on the left removable panel and not the ones above the expansion slots. Check chieftec site.
http://www.chieftec.com/products/Workcolor/ColorDX.htm

The Newegg rep mentioned that since their site ad didn't mention the fans, they are not obliged to ship it. Oh Well...:frown:

Anyhow, apart from that the case is quite good. Fairly spacious and decently built.
And yeah the color isn't exactly dark black, but a bit like charcoal black. Think of of it almost like matt black.

Does anybody have any more info on that Enhance power supply included with this case? How does it compare with the Antec 300 watt PS or the Enermax EG351 ?

I just connected the empty case PS to the main and switched on the switch on the backpanel. No dice. The PS doesn't seem to start, atleast the fan doesn't. Also there is no voltage on the output pins. Looks like the PS is crapped out. The broken warranty seal was indeed a sign of the same.
Maybe Newegg send me a refurb ??

BTW, for the guys who got the case, if you connect the mains to the PS and switch on the PS from it's back switch, does the PS (fan) start up or you need to connect the motherboard too for the whole thing to work??

TIA

Little Wolf,

You need a mobo to power up that badboy, only the old style AT would power up just by hitting the switch. There is a way to "trick" the PSU, but it involves shorting out 2 pins on the mobo harness.. not for the week at heart

I bought the Antec version (1030B) of this case from techonweb. This case rocks.

It is cool-looking, and solid as a rock.

Thanks for the reply Tom and maxcom. I did suspect so. My old PC had an AT style PS and hence would power up with the switch.

I guess I will check the PS with the mobo connected and see.

Thanks again

Hey littlewolf, here's how you can test whether the PSU is a dud or not. Take a paperclip and shape it into a "U". Then stick one end of the clip into the green wire on the ATX connector and stick the other end into any other black wire on that connector. Plug one of the 4 pin connectors into a case fan, turn it on and it should spin. If it doesn't than the PSU is phucked and you should get it RMA'ed. Here's a link discussing it in more detail.

thanks for the reply GreatWolf.

I anyhow managed to setup my mobo and the PS. The PS works fine with the Mobo. So looks like all's good.
The PS doesn't seem to have any visible pots. Any specific place I have to look??
BTW, you can also find the PS specs at the Enhance site. Sorry don't have the link handy. Let me know if you don't find it...

The case by itself is quite decent. Only sharp edges I could find was with the plastic front-door edges, but rest all cool.

Thanks for the deal..

When I read "No Case Fan" in their listing, I think that means there aren't any fans in the case (excepting the PS fan). Why would you think Newegg didn't mention it?

I bought the Antec version from CompUsa and was way overcharged. It came with one fan. I just purchased another Enermax version from NewEgg(30 bucks cheaper) and it included all four fans. The power supply wires were adequate in both but the Enermax came with a nice sleave over the power supply wires that gave it a clean look. I love this case design and having four case fans.

The original "Manager's Special" listing for this case did not include any reference to case fans.

I love these cases, I have had an Antec 1040B for about 1 1/2 years. My only problem with these cases is: Why dont they put some USB ports on the front of the cases. Motherboard manufacturers have been implementing the extra USB headers on their boards for a long time now. How hard could it be to add the extra outputs in the manufacturing of these cases? They probably wouldnt even have to change the structure of the metal, just modify the bezel. This case has been been built for quite some time now (Ive had the antec version for 1 1/2 years), its time they add this small (but important) modification. I know there are other alternatives for getting these up front, but I want it built into these cases.

Axiontech.com has the Antec SX800 w/o PSU for $55.95. Good deal for those of us with power supplies coming out of our ears. Ground shipping was about $21 to CA. (Boy, do I miss those free Outpost.com air freight deals!)

Can you give me the specs that's on the label of the enermax 330w PSU? The enermax site doesn't seem to have any info on this psu. I thought this case comes shipped with 3 fans though.

Thanx
