Hi,

Was thinking of getting a video card refurb from Newegg. a ATI 9700pro specifically. Was wondering about the whole warrenty thing and anyone;s experiences. I know New egg gievs a 15 day but after that it seems to be up in the air depending on manufacturer. Does that mean a OEM warrenty kicks in? Does anyone have experience buying a ATI refurb and know what ATI's warrenty stance is on it? As always thanks!

I bought a refurb radeon 9700pro from newegg a couple months ago. It turned out to be a radeon 9700np to pro mod that failed. The card gave artifacts in DOS and Windows. Even underclocking did nothing to fix it. I ended up returning it. I don't think a refurb card is worth the hassle, might as well spend a little extra $$ to be safe IMHO.

I've heard way too many "refurb was just an unsuccesful flash, lots of artifcats" to ever buy a refurb from newegg. How they can sell refurbs without even testing them first is criminal IMO.

I bought a 9800 Pro refurb from NewEgg. It worked great, but wasn't much of an overclocker. IMO 15 days is enough time to use the card heavily and make sure it works okay. The card worked for a year and I sold it. Its still working.
As for the warranty, I think that in some cases you get the original warranty. But some manufacturers may want the original invoice.

bought an ATI 9700pro AIW last year , works flawlessly and has no problems at all (knocking on wood). What I made sure to do was stress test the hell out of it in the first few days of getting it to make sure I could return it within the 15 days incase something happened.

Its ridiculous of Newegg to ship you a 9700np as a 9700pro. I think it must've been a mistake.

Refurbs from newegg are listed as barebones OEM although some may come with original box+stuff.

And I agree that refurbs include many cards which failed modding from some ethically challenged buyer.

You mean the warranty isn't for failed OCing and mods?! WTH?

It is pretty disgusting, isn't it?

I bought a 9800np refurb. Came with nothing expect the power cable. Probably sent back because of Infineon memory. Works like charms and was considerably cheaper than new when I bought it.
