My friend bought a Videocard a few years back from newegg that was listed as exchange only. About a month after his exchange window had expired he decided for no real reason that he wanted a different card itself and all he had to do was get his mom on the phone to bitch and he ended up with a full refund.

I hate people who do this kind of shit, jackass should of kept the card instead of acting like a lil girl and having his mommy pitch a fit so his dumbass could get a refund after his return policy. Your friend should grow some Cahonas

I recently purchased an ATI 4850, well 4 weeks ago recent, that had major problems the moment I started using it. Basically, most of the non reference cooling designs for these cards now have no memory heatsinks. I've noticed this on other cards after looking through a few of them. This makes most of the cards die quite often. Mine did after about 2 days of use.

I called them up to say this thing is dead and I didn't want a replacement because of the lack of heatsinks for the memory. I said I was not going to do this dance of going through multiple cards because of a shitty cooling system design flaw. So they gave me a refund. Didn't have to speak to a supervisor or anything.

Newegg is cool and I can see if you had a actual problem it's just these idiots that try to return shit when nothing is wrong. I bought a dual slot design xfx hd4850 before and that thing rocked...

those "no return" items are probably gray market; rather then it being the store policy to not allow returns.

Newegg likely deals direct with most manufacturers (especially graphics).

"Gray market" often happens with products that the manufacturer wants to control distribution and/or pricing.

It is mainly because of the people that abuse return policies. When someone returns an item that has nothing wrong with it but the buyer didn't like it for whatever reason the seller cannot just send it back to the manufacturer.

Depends on the agreement with the manufacturer. For instance Best Buy has a fairly lax return policy because their agreement with manufacturers stipulate that any returns to Best Buy gets sent back to the manufacturer for a refund. And yes, most things sent back has nothing wrong with them. You are right about that.

Smaller resellers that have to go through distribution or gray market can't return anything.

BUT.....while this has never happened to me at Microcenter, I have purchased cpus, motherboards, and/or memory from Frys that was on sale, get home and find out that the cpu/memory/motherboard was returned and put back on the shelf as new and sold as such. (Cpu with TIM still on it, motherboard missing cables, back I/O plate open/missing, etc., memory with very visible scratches on the gold fingers, etc.)

Retail boxed items on shelves are supposed to have a 5% off sticker stating that they were "returned and found working." Guess in practice some stuff slips through. I've actually been handed a used OEM processor twice at Fry's. First one was DOA - didn't notice until I got home that it was used. Second one, I examined thoroughly at the register and refused it (definite TIM stains).

Couple weeks ago at the Fry's anniversary sale I purchased a couple of combos at the Downer's Grove store (Chicago). Their new policy dating back a few months is to have the purchaser open the motherboard box (remove the straps and cut the sticker) and examine contents before accepting it.

I just noticed that video card sales in newegg are nonrefundable... forget restocking fee, there are simply no refunds.

What is a good place to buy video cards in the USA now that newegg went down the toilet?

If you live next to a Fry's Electronics, they're my personal choice. Their prices aren't anything to write home about, but they're competitive enough.

Fry's return policy is very lenient, even with computer hardware of all types. Basically as long as you are returning an item with all the necessary stuff within the return period window AND you're either exchanging it for an exact similar card or store credit, you're golden. I've never been rejected for a return / store credit from Fry's, and I've had a lot of returns in my day over 6 years shopping there.

However - as noted by others - be careful. A lot of stuff at Fry's is dodgy at best. Nothing hurts more to find out your "new" product was already opened and returned. Double check for that neon orange sticker all around the case, and if you can open the box in the parking lot / your car to check the contents, that would help a bit.

Slightly OT, OEM Processors at Fry's are probably the last thing I would ever recommend to anyone! They ALWAYS seem like they were used before or opened in one way or another. I always ask for Retail Boxed (It's like $10-20 bucks extra, not much) and double check if those were returned as well.

doesn't even cover it? ha!
the 15% restocking fee is WAAAAY to high. And last I checked they don't reduce the cost of open box items by 15%... heck, often not even by 1%

microcenter is UNUSUAL in that it doesn't allow refunds. Most stores in the USA do.

And so what? I said that best buy and frys have CONSISTENT policies... microcenter also has consistent policy "No returns unless it is DOA"...
with newegg you get an inconsistent policy, with some items being "no returns" and others allowing return... so you have to carefully examine each individual item rather then look at an overall store policy, and it indicates that those "no return" items are probably gray market; rather then it being the store policy to not allow returns.
I doubt 15% covers it. You can look through their site and find tons of open box products that sell for more than 15% below standard price. This for example.

As far as B&Ms, they do tend to have more lenient return policies. They're also more expensive. You have to pay for that convenience, because you're also paying for return abuse/fraud and stuff like that. Sucks, but unfortunately people abuse these policies and try to scam companies, and we have to shoulder the cost.

Microcenter pricematch??? Anytime I have been in the Overland Park Microcenter they refuse to pricematch any online prices.

Guess it's up to the individual store. But the two MicroCenters in Atlanta, GA pricematch Newegg for me all the time.

Only time I've had one refused was a cpu/motherboard combo from Fry's. That's the one thing both MC's said they won't pricematch.

Otherwise, all I have to do is mention that Fry's/Newegg/whoever has a better price and the sales guy will look it up online for me, print it out, and drop it off at the checkout counter. Never had a manager refuse to authorize the PM, either, and this includes motherboards, memory, video cards, power supplies, radiators.....anything.

Of course, I usually take pages of items printed out already....saves time.

it doesnt appear to have anything to do with newegg. first off nearly all of their are cards refundable and most without any restocking fee and all you have to do is look before you order. next the ones that are non refundable seem to have the same stipulation at other e-tailers so its clearly the card manufacture making this decision and not newegg.

for instance this XFX card says "VGA Replacement Only Return Policy".
* Return for refund within: non-refundable
* Return for replacement within: 30 days

well at tigerdirect it says basically the same thing.

This Product Has Limited Exchange Privileges.
For support on this product, please contact XFX at 800-880-3225. Defective exchanges for identical item within 30 days of purchase permitted on this product with prior manufacturer approval.

Massive fail thread...

if you don't have anything constructive to say then don't say anything.

very interesting. I started scouring the web for other sources of this card (XFX HD-585X-ZNFV)... at first I found it on amazon.com which simply says "sellers return policy" and links to compUSA general policy that allows returns.
http://www.amazon.com/XFX-HD-585X-ZN.../dp/B003LND1GS
But when I went to compusa.com and searched for that exact model there I saw that it specifically does not allow returns (at least if bought from compusa.com I don't know what it means to buy it through amazon from compusa)
http://www.compusa.com/applications/...#exchange_info
Likewise buy.com finds it from tigerdirect.com and doesn't specify non returnability as far as I can tell.

zipzoomfly also has it: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...rodlist=search
But does not specify any special return policy for it as far as I can tell. and unlike the others zipzoomfly is actually the seller in this case, so they should know.

This raises the question as to why. Is XFX telling sellers to not allow returns of specific models?
Also, are you able to return it if you bought it through amazon.
