I am looking to buy the ImageQuest L90D+ 19" and I noticed that it is $20 cheaper at Tigerdirect. How is Tigerdirect as a vendor?

Also, I am going to use the monitor for looking at stock markeet charts and quotes. I see that there is CMV CM-922D 19" LCD for $295, but there are not reviews. Does anyone know anything about it?

I tried TigerDirect.com when they had memory prices at 1/2 of newegg. The difference in price was from the rebate which I have yet to recieve two months later. If I ever get my rebate I'll bump this thread and let you know.

Here's what you'll get when you deal with TigerDirect.

1) They overcharge on shipping at least $10 (anything that's $40 just make it $50)
2) The rebate system is horrid, you'll spend alot of time setting it up, and you will have to stay on top of them to make sure you recieve it.

Overall the prices may be lower on TigerDirect.com but you can't quantify how much easier/less stressful it is dealing with NewEgg.com. You're talking $20 bucks, go NewEgg.com and thank us all later. You have better things to do that worry about your online orders.

Haven't dealt with Tiger in a LLOONNGG time. Worst return policy I've ever had to deal with. That's why I do all my ordering through either Newegg or M-wave. Never have had probs with either one. Returns, repairs, RMAs, shipping(OK Newegg IS faster and cheaper), and good prices.

I buy from both and I purchase for my company. If it is a part that could have an RMA I always buy from Newegg. A part like a HSF from the cheapest is alright. Newegg's RMA is second to none in my experience. For quick shipping Newegg is also the best. Do yourself a favor buy Newegg.

If you have to ask... Then you obviously haven't bought from NewEgg. They are the best, but if they're prices for a particular item aren't competitive, don't be afraid to shop around. I have purchased from MWave, SMKSuperstore, Monarch Computers, etc., and they have all come through. If I have an option, I will go with NewEgg first, but if the price is not close, I will not hesitate to use some of these other reputable vendors... However, TigerDirect is NOT one of them.

I've ordered from zzf and newegg but NEVER TD. A while back they sold all of their customers' info and everyone got signed up for a long distance service or something like that. I think that they won't do that again.

The only thing I don't like about the egg is the dead pixel policy.
Dead Pixels Policy: Replacement and Refund for 8 or more DEAD PIXELS ONLY!

But with 191 voters and 5 stars sounds like a great monitor.

Fast Shipping???? I just ordered 2 things from ZZF and it seemed they took forever to ship it. I ordered it at 2:30pm est time which would have made it 11:30am CA time. It took them over 24 hours to get my order packed and shipped, with NewEgg it would've been out that same day. I know it says allow atleast 24hrs to ship but everytime i've ordered from NewEgg as long as I put the order in by 3pm est time it was out that same day. This was my first time ordering from ZZF so maybe thats why?

The biggest problem with Tigerdirect is that people see some of the cheap junky barebones systems that are not very high quality and buy them and have problems with them. Their prices sometimes are a little higher on some things, but they sell some lower end gear that may not be the best hardware to purchase.

Just check the shipping costs.

Tigerdirect still sells some of the Chieftec cases which I dont think Newegg is selling right now. It depends what you are looking for. I noticed on some of their products they have been showing better pictures of the products.

I've found tiger to have bad prices. I know a guy that swears by them, though. I guess it's just pot luck.

Tiger Direct is a notorious dealer of gray market schlock - stick with NewEgg or Zip-Zoom-Fly (formerly Googlegear.)

I wouldn't worry about the whole 8 dead pixels thing. In reality, most of that stuff is warranted through the product manufacturer anyway -- that's just Newegg's way of encouraging you to go to them instead of Newegg if you got dead pixels. So just look for whatever the manufacturer's dead pixel policy is since that's what you'll really be looking at in terms of dead pixels.

As for the CMV CM-922D, I personally like the design of the Polyview V293 better (thinner bezel), but the CMV seems to have a better circuit board (handles signal degradation better). Otherwise they're made by the same manufacturer and everything, so you can pretty much just look at the reviews for the Polyview V293 (the 922D is new so no reviews yet). DVI cable comes included with both, so you don't need to look for one on your own (the latest review says the DVI connector is loose; first report I've heard of that, hopefully it's just that the screws weren't properly tightened). Comes with the usual small speakers that are meant more for office use than for gaming use. People say that the power LED is excessively blue. I tend to agree. Someone said they solved that problem by putting tape over it. YMMV. The monitor itself is actually fairly light; the stand is heavier than it looks, because there's a metal plate in the stand to make it more stable. So if you're looking to wall-mount or arm-mount it (it has VESA 100 mm square mount holes as well as mounting slots 350 mm apart) it's actually pretty light for that -- 8 lb without the stand.

I guess it depends on what type of monitor you're looking for. If you're a hardcore gamer, should probably pay the premium and go for those 8 ms monitors (although the reviews said there's no ghosting with these monitors). If you're looking for general office use, or don't care that much for marketing's bells and whistles, well, that's what these monitors are geared toward.

In terms of the dead pixel policy, we're on a 3-3-5 (3 bright, 3 dark, 5 total subpixels max allowed) policy now, it just hasn't been reflected on our website and stuff yet. If you're interested in how that compares with everyone else, feel free to ask, cuz I collect them for fun.

Note: I am an employee of Amptron, which is the U.S. distributor for CMV and Polyview monitors.

that's bullcrap over 24hrs is not bad, 2-3 days is still fine with me but not 1 week
newegg have take 2-3 days as well and even 48 hours for me most of the time.
within 24hrs it say packaged so this does take time. hell you'll have to pay 3.99 to be shipped in 24hrs or less... :

I've dealt with 40-50 vendors since 1997 and I foolishy USED to let a "good deal" be my guide in choosing a vendor (that was when I HAD discovered the then-much-less-primitive PRICEWATCH.com but BEFORE I had discovered resellerratings.com).

All I can tell you is that I was fortuneate and had only a few bad experiences; a couple were REALLY bad.

Although I have not directly dealt with TigerDirect (no pun intended) I have heard enough "Horror Stories" about them that I do not buy from them.

Resellerratings can be helpful but I have noticed two things about that site over the years:

1) Not enough people are motivated to "post" their experiences so it takes a long time for a vendor to gather a high enough number of ratings to be statistically significant

AND

2) the people who DO have an inclination to post there are often people who have had a BAD experience; I know this is not always the case - Newegg has a tremendous volume of positive responses - but on the whole I have noticed the aforementioned "trend".

TigerDirect is a LARGE computer company !!! If I were you I would either AVOID TigerDirect or buy from them cautiously and "protect" yourself in any way you can.

It seems that things can go "afoul" when a company's "head" gets too big. Case in point - I USED to buy a LOT of item from a internet company called Techstxxx between 1997-2001. They were FANTASTIC. They had good prices (a little higher than average), huge inventories , a FANTASTIC "Real Time Inventory" feature that REALLY worked, about 7 warehouses pretty evenly scattered around the country, FAST newegg-like shipping and GREAT after-the-sale customer service. I received one order in 18 hours from time of order placement. I am NOT exaggerating, they had a wharehouse adjacent to the state in which I live ! BTW, their rating at resellerratings was one of the highest during this time period.

Anyway, they got too large for their own good and sold out to an even LARGER company. THEN things started to happen for the worse. It got to the point that even one of their phone REPRESENTATIVES suggested I would be taking a chance if I continued to place orders with them as he told me "things have gotten really shaky over since the buyout". Around that same point in time I had discovered NewEgg and started having FANTASTIC experiences like the ones I had become accustomed to dealing with Techsxxxx. I quickly "forgot" about Techsxxxx. A couple of years later I went online to check prices at Techsxxxx and I got an "no website found" message. I thought they might be having server problems but decided to go to resellerratings to view their current rating. I was shocked to see that their great rating had vaporized and there had been NO postings left for the site in over 6 months.

There is a good ending to this LONG story. I have recently checked them out at resellerratings and visited their site and it appears they are "back on track" and beginning to regain their once-solid reputation. Their website is much more primitve now (no great real-time inventory checker for example) but it takes time to re-build.

I only mention this story because years ago (when they were not quite so large) I used to hear more positive things about TigerDirect and that has changed over the years; maybe for the same reasons that Techsxxxx had its problems.

For OUR sakes, lets hope this does NOT happen to NEWEGG; one of the VERY FINEST computer (and other) parts vendors in our Solar System !!!!

Good luck to you !

I talk too much; now you know why my posting number is low for a person who has been with Anandtech for so long, lol.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I had "gone astray" from computerdome and Anandtech for a long time - that's why my "posts number is low" but I am GLAD to be "back" to one of the finest, if not THE FINEST, computer informational web sites - ANANDTECH.COM !!!!

Here's what you'll get when you deal with TigerDirect.

1) They overcharge on shipping at least $10 (anything that's $40 just make it $50)

In dealing with between 40-50 vendors in the last 8 years that is a trend which seems to be almost universal (with a few exceptions - NewEgg being one exception). That is, they "lure you in" with their cheap-appearing price and then "SOCK YOU" with the Shipping Charge.

I've had great luck with both. Tiger *sometimes* has some deals, but keep in mind their shipping charges are flat out expensive, and make sure you check the prices against other merchants. I've also always gotten my rebates from them, but do make sure you keep copies of any submissions and follow up as needed. One set of rebates did take nearly 6 months, but were received.

Newegg is certiainly less hassle, and you're far less likely to get ripped off. If the prices are the same or close, go with Newegg. If it's a significant amount lower at Tiger, I wouldn't hesitate to give them a try.
