Newegg is awesome. I had an original-run K7S5A that had an IDE port fail outside of the 30-day return, Newegg credited me the cost, told me to buy a new one, ship the old one back, then they credited me back the shipping cost.

I bought another mobo a few years later and it was shipped out when I wasn't home to receive it (actually, I was in another state and would be for another 3 days - I have no idea why I ordered it right before I left), and when Fedex shipped it back to Newegg, they actually called me to ask why it came back, and after explaining to them, the lady on the phone put a hold order, and had me call back when I got home and re-shipped it then.

I had a third story, not Newegg, but I can't remember it off the top of my head.

Story:

I recently built a new computer. Phenom II 550, 4890, 2 GB of cheap ram. 2 GB doesn't cut it for virtual machines, ordered another 2 GB stick of the same family, Rendition by Crucial PC2 6400.

Accidentally ordered this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820148233

Instead of this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820148235

Yeah, accidentally laptop RAM instead of desktop RAM.

I called Newegg, said that I didn't even open the package and would like to just return the one I have and order the desktop counterpart.

The lady on the phone told me she is going to credit my account the money for the RAM and I don't have to bother sending it back in...just order the new one.

Anyone else have an experience like this? How can they afford to let me to keep it? I mean, I'm not complaining, I have an M1330 that this is going straight into, but wow.

Um, Newegg FTW.

I had it happen with a case once. It arrived damaged (but still very usable). I called Newegg and they refunded the money (I think minus shipping, IIRC) and let me keep it.

Sometimes if they have an old stock that is being replaced, they'll let you keep the old model so they don't have to be stuck with refurb outdated models.

Sometime it cost almost half or more just to ship something like that back then to just write it off. I have Dell and other places do the same thing also. Though it wasn't my fault in ordering but the sales guy putting in the wrong item.

I would receive the item and call them back up and they would just say just keep it. Got two desktop DVDRW burner from dell for free because I ordered it for a laptop rather then a desktop. Sales guys said keep both dvdrw.

Got from Insight free memory because they ordered it for a desktop rather then a laptop.

CDW floppy drive because they sent me a ide one rather then a usb that I ordered.

So once in a while you will get lucky.

Yup, there's a reason all us computer nerds spend hundreds - if not thousands - of dollars there over the years. It helps that their prices are fair and their shipping excellent, of course.

Bottom line, they're the best. That's why they've exploded into the company they are now. I've been using them for close to 10 years, and honestly can't think of a reason to go anyplace else, unless it's an absolute emergency and I have to have the part NOW...
