Yea to update I got my drive in yesterday. It had a few foam peanuts and was wrapped in bubble wrap. But the bubble warp only had 1 layer on 1 long side so there was little protection. Also the drive was new in static bag (sealed) but there were still scratches on the top of the drive.
But still had the best price and was qucik with getting it out. If it works then no harm.
Physical damage voids the mfg warranty. Return the drive to NewEgg while you still can! You have no warranty on that drive!

Let's compare Newegg's shipping to Amazon.
I ordered the 3 Seagate drives and they came in crap packaging from Newegg.
I ordered 2 Western Digital Black 1TB drives and they came in the plastic shell which leaves the drive directly in the center without any chance of hitting another drive. PLUS, it was in a retail like box and then put into ANOTHER box. Amazing packaging and protection from Amazon.
When I bought my last OEM 6400AAKS drive from Microcenter, instead of just sitting on a shelf in the anti-static bag, they were actually packaged inside cardboard boxes, with plastic clamshells holding the drive in the center of the box. If I can purchase WD OEM HDs online, that come in that same sort of retail-like packaging, then I will.
This is why I much prefer to buy retail-boxed HDs, because of the shipping protection afforded by them. I'll pay $10-15 more for the same HD, for greater peace of mind that as long as the drive isn't DOA, it will last for years.
I also ordered five Seagate 500GB 7200.11 drives from Dell, and they came all packaged in a nice container that held five drives, with nice thick foam all around each drive. Definately good packaging, I don't know if they always ship drives that way, or if I just got lucky, or if they happen to get drives in that sort of packaging when you order five of them.
The only way that I would EVER order OEM drives from NewEgg, is if I know beforehand how many drives come in an OEM carton, and I ordered the entire carton's worth.
I might purchase HDs from Amazon, given the above review of their packaging. Sounds good to me, instead of the sub-standard NewEgg packaging.
