Newegg's prices did a number on the Conroe market

I was looking at the Real time pricing and saw that the pre-order for ZZF.com was $339 for a E6600, then I got a back in stock alert from them and saw that it was not back in stock and it was now $399!!!

So, it looks like the market is following Newegg up the ladder to higher prices. So much for all of you saying that you are going to others to buy. If this trend continues, it is due to the "supply and demand" ( Some Econ major is going to flip out about another ref to this)

This is the price that we pay to get what everyone else wants and there is not alot of places that have it. Once they sit on a shelf, and dont sell out day they come instock we will see the prices come back to retail...

Yah I got the same email a few mins ago and I see the same thing.. that rots. The damn chip will cost more on Newegg than it does in Canada when and if they ever get anymore in stock.

Thanks to all the SHILL on newegg!

Real review on Newegg for Conroe:

" I love Newegg. Such great prices!

Pros: A great cpu and at such a low price! Way to go Newegg!

Cons: Only 2mb cache."

I just got the same e-mail from zzf.com. $399 what a rip off!
Now I'm glad I pre-ordered from blt.com several weeks ago at $343.97.
If they ever get them in stock I should be one of the first to get one.
The ETA started at 7-27-06 now it says 8-16-06. I recieved an e-mail from
blt.com yesterday stating "ETA: Throughout August" who knows.
I guess I'll keep my order with them open unless I come across another
deal at a reasonable price. Oh yeah blt.com has raised their price too
$349.23 a far cry from $399 though.

Or maybe this is all Newegg's marketing strategy.. Jack up the prices so every other retailers jack up theirs and when 8/14 hits VOILA!! They bring down the price lower then their competition and everyone buys Conroes from Newegg

If you want an E6600 then lock in an order now at Buy.com. (buy.com = Ingram Micro). Use a $15 off $200 to get it down to $324. If a better deal comes around then cancel the buy.com order.

Or go with a E6300 or E6400. I originally thought E6600 would be the sweet spot but that does not seem to be the case. E6400's are inexpensive, available and OC very well. (maybe within a few points of the E6600). Couple it up with a <$150 DS3 or P5B.

Don't let the frenzy over E6600+ overcome basic logic.

I'm glad I'm not gung ho about C2D right now, or I'd be pissed w/ this crap. I feel bad for those of you who've been losing sleep at night waiting for these beasts to be delivered to your doorstep.

Yes, I know, supply & demand, etc., but I'd still be pissed.

Good, all the more reason to push me towards just getting an X2. I'll be sure NOT to get it from NewEgg.

LOL! It's not Newegg that artificially raises prices. This is what people are willing to pay for them. Supply and demand. Take an Econ 101 class. You'll understand perfectly after that.

It's the whole thing about just because you can it doesn't mean you should.

If you owned a business and knew people wanted this item you were getting and they would pay a premium to get it, you sure as hell would charge them that amount.

this is hardly a newegg only thing... most etailiers (including ZZF) have been price gouging on new stuff for some time - they have done the same for video cards. as long as ppl buy em at that price, they're gonna keep gouging....

which means the consumers are just as much to blame because they are the ones allowing it to happen.

Come on people. How else are you going to allocate scarce resources other than by price? The Magic Conroe Fairy (tm) is on vacation for a week or two. Get used to it. None of these retailers are "gouging" (an economically meaningless term) since they aren't holding a gun to your head.

Neweqg, ZZF, and everybody else can price them at $1 million for all I care. The price doesn't matter if they don't have any to sell. We'll see what the prices are when they are in stock.

I want a 6600 as badly as anybody, but I think I'll wait until they are in stock. If the prices are at a level I'm comfortable with ($400 or less at the moment) I'll buy one. Otherwise I'll downshift to a 6400.

I just wonder how many people are going to get screwed come 8/14 from pre-orders.

I've seen it happen before. They change the price of the product when they get a shipment in, send an email to you stating some crappy excuse and jack up the price.

Hmm, I've taken an Economics 101 class. The quote from the textbook went something like this "Unscrupulous merchants will usually attempt to sell their merchandise at above the MSRP, in an attempt to make higher-than-acceptable profits, any time they have inventory that is in high demand. If the comsumer refuses to pay the higher price, then the company then loses the profits that they would have made from the sales at a price closer to the average for that item."

It sounds to me like you guys shouldn't buy any Conroes,at least for a few months. Then, you'd all be able to afford an E6700, since the prices would then fall below MSRP. Of course, that only works if nearly everyone refuses to pay the prices they're asking. So, unless you can talk everyone at xtremesystems.org and overclockers.com into waiting a few hours for the sites to drop their prices to MSRP, it isn't going to do any good.

exactly....so you do understand. I dont why you then have to blame newegg for making a lil extra money.
