Has anyone heard how eVGA is going to handle the incredible amount of step-up requests they're gonna get on the 9th?

If the rumored MSRPs of $299 and $499 for 7900GT and 7900GTX are true, are they actually going to give me a 7900GT for free?

I'm afraid there are going to be a lot of denied step-ups which is going to suck.

I agree, there are going to be a huge number of disgruntled customers.
I think they may get around if by valuing the 7800 GT and 7800 GTX at what they go for at the time, and not what you paid for them originally.

So you may have paid $300 for your 7800 GT, but if after the 7900 GT is released at the MSRP at $300, and the price of the 7800 GT falls to $270 (for example) they'll probably charge users that extra $30 for the step up, instead of doing it for free.

Interesting thought Nib.

My orignal plan was to step-up to a 7900GTX ($311 credit) and sell my second 7800GT to make up the difference, but 7900GT (overclocked to sh!t of course) SLI is sounding mighty nice to me.

heh I'm just forgetting about doing the step up thing.

1. I threw away my box
2. I threw away my stock HSF
3. If I ever need more processing power I'll just buy a second, but right now I'm pretty happy with 1.
4. I won't have to go through all the stepping up complications.

Step-Up Terms and Conditions

# EVGA retains the right to revoke or revise the EVGA Step Up Service at will. If so, participants shall be informed through the EVGA website without notice of any such change.

The issue here is will eVGA really give up their brand new $299 7900GTs to soemone like me who paid $311 for their 7800GT??

What they will most likley do is limit the number of cards available for step-up, and many people who plan on stepping up will end up waiting up until G80 is released to get their step-up card. Either that, or they will simply price their cards higher. They already go for about $100 for a 7800GT than BFG at both Fry's and Micro Center. I'm quite confident that eVGA knows what they are doing and won't go under.

I dont care if they go under or not, I just want my damn step-up card!

I'm pretty sure eVGA is going to do something shady to keep people froms tepping-up, like pricing the 7900GTX at $600-$650 when you'll be able to get one for like $475 on the 10th (assuming MSRP is $499 of course).

I guess we'll just have to see. I still havent got a reply about my denied rebate from them either. I'm really starting to get peeved at eVGA. If they ruin my step-up someone, whether it be denied or grossly overpriced, I think I may have to give XFX a try!

More than likely they will over price their website cards even though you will be able to buy an evga card on-line from an e-tailer for a much lower price maybe?

thats exactly right.

evga has no intent on making the stepup program a viable option.

its just a cheap gimmick to try to sucker people.

go to evga's website and look at their prices. a year after the 7800gt's release they still rpice their models at $399 or higher. when its easily available at many e retailers for under $280.

they are gonna list the x1800xt, and 7900gt and up as $600 or more.

so ur gonna have to pay for shipping to ship ur card back and pay another $300 or more upgrading from a 7800gt to 7900gt or x1800xt.

i could sell my 7800gt for $200 and buy the msi x1800xt for $400 @ zipzoomfly.com

the step up program only offers the step up for people who purchased their card with-in 90 days. So if you had your card for more than 3 months you're SOL.

The prices listed on the step-up site are MSRP, which has not changed since introduction.

I disagree, I think it's there to help sway people to buy eVGA if they are worried about that next generation or upgrade card surprising them. I used the step-program to get two 7800GTX KO's when those came out about two months after the regular 7800GTX. If ATI had a similar deal, I'd have stepped up to an X1900XT(X) as well.

what they'll probably do is credit you the price you paid, but tell you that you can only step up to cards that are listed as more expensive on their website than the pricing for your card on their website. so, if your 7800GT is listed at $399, you can only step up to the $499 card, and you'll have to pay the difference from $275 or whatever.

If you read the last line in the TOS for EVGA step up program, they give you a hint at what will happen.

"Unreleased or future products may not become available or have limited availability for the Step-Up Program. In the event of limited availability, product will be distributed on a first come first serve basis at the sole discretion of EVGA."

I would put money on EVGA Dumping most of the cards on Retailers and Etailers. Then only carry very few to sell on the website. So I would imagine that only a very small % of us will get to step up any time soon.

There's already a huge thread for people to track their step-ups. I'm shipping mine back today for another 7900GT CO.

You are wrong.
I have a Evga 7900GT on the way that I paid a total of $5 for from a 7800GT.

Yes, if the price of the step up card is greater than that of the MSRP then you'll get it for free (been covered in another thread). You just won't get any money back.

From Evga:
We have made some changes that now allow customers to step-up to a card of lesser cost than they originall paid. Please note you do not get a refund on the amount.
