I have just switched away from PowerUsenet in favor of Newsdemon. Powerusenet works very well, but their pricing policy for the intro months is a little byzantine - it's $9.99 per month for the first two months, IF you pay for at least one month at $14.95. So, essentially, it's $14.95 for one month, $29.90 for two, and then $34.93 for three. Not a big issue, but it left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

Lastly, they don't do pro-rated billing for the last month of service. So, I'm with two newsgroup services for the month of March, but I'm still going to come out ahead in a few months.

Just reporting back, Astraweb kicks Usenetservers ass in speed, consistency and retention, glad I switched.

I'm comparing Astra to Newsdemon right now, so far, both seem pretty good, on par with giganews -40 days in retention.

Giganews retention has been steadily going down, according to dslreports it's down to 200 days now
