Newsgroup Readers

I just signed up at giganews and i have been trying a few newsreaders.

Grabit. - Great program but only allows 8 connections I have 10 available to me
Xnews - Kinda weird interface and does not show number of posts in each group
Agent - Tried this one too and i wasn;t all that impressed.

NewsLeecher - by far my favorite i was using version 3 but it always crashes (well it says that it has performed an illegal error however i can still use the program.. just an annoying pop up stays up when i am using it..

any other suggestions???

I'm still using newsleecher 1.0. I had the same issues with NL3. Crashed a lot.

NL3 crashes alot because you're using cracked version.

NL is singulary the best reader out there now

I have used Agent, XanaNews, and currently Grabit. All with no issues. Im currently subscribed to teranews (50MB/day free).

I recently subscribed to UsenetMonster (5gb/mo. @ $2.95) and have been using Newsbin Pro 4.32. It's great. I tried the newer version 5, but I didn't like it as much. I've also tried Grabit but wasn't a fan of that either.

Not a bad deal, but im getting 1.5GB/month for nuthin'...

I prefer daily anyway. If you get into alt.binaries ... well, heh, you could do that 5G in one day.

I'm happy with giganews.. my connection tops out at about 680k/s and i have unlimited downloads... it's about 30CND.. but for a first timer i like it

Those of you using the cracked versions of NewsLeecher need to cough up the money for it. You are missing out on one very key component: SuperSearch. Get it. Try it. Love it.

F5 to get message count, ctrl F5 to get all message counts.

One of the things I like about Xnews is it's portable. You don't need to install it, it can run from anywhere. Only downside is development on it is dead. No more fixes or updates.

No one mentioned Newsrover so I will. I didn't care that much for it, but it's another alternative. Wasn't as stable as Xnews, and gave me a lot more errors.

Anyone try Thunderbird?

does anyone know how in newsleecher, i can set it to show the entire subject field for a group's listed posts?

right now, got to right click on 1 post, click its properties, then you can view what the entire subject field of the post is.

Newsleecher 3 has been dead nutz stable for me. I have used NL since ver 1, and I think v3 is the most stable.

You need 10 connections to max out your bandwidth?

I run 6 but 4 will tap my 5mbit line

i've been using newsbin for years now, gotta love it.

the new version 5 is pretty awesome...with a built in par/rar extractor etc

and now with nzb sites out there, you no longer need to wait hours to download millions of headers...

edit: oh and with cox here in vegas, you get unlimited downloads @ 5mbit (maxes out my connection) with supernews for....free!
