I'm looking at signing up for a newsgroup service. Ideally, I would like the highest retention with unlimited downloads for the lowest price per month. Currently I know of Giganews and Newshosting. Are there any other options for me? Any Recommendations?

I beg to differ, if one knows how to operate newsgroups and actually has a pay service, newgroups can be far superior in terms of speed and/or rare files. I know they suck when you use your ISP newsgroup, but if you pay for it usually the service is much, much better.

I'm sorry it's hard to grasp sarcasm with no vocal tones.

It's a Newsgroup thread, you're always supposed to follow the first rule. Endless September is bad enough, the last thing we need is more people inviting legal trouble.

I used to be with Newshosting, but switched to Usenetserver. It's cheaper, has longer retention, more connections, has SSL, and search.

I also have a Comcast Giganews account for fills, which rarely gets used.

I understand.. I'm not asking anything about how I go about doing it, just merely asking questions about what service is good.

And of course I'm not going to completely hide what I'm going to use it for, everyone can draw that conclusion on their own

I have easynews, but that doesn't fall into your needs. giganews would probably be a good choice.

So I must not understand the deal with newsgroups...

If ISP's offer them, then it's all legal content, correct?

Why do morons post 50mb files and make them worth 3 pars. So even if 1 mb is corrupted, you still have to download the ~17mb par+01 file.

With the speed of newsgroups, that 17MB par file should take only a minute or so to download. What's the problem?

I am with news.astraweb.com

its good in the fact you can buy blocks. $10 for 25 gigs. but it misses out on a bunch of groups.

i have 2 gigs left of my 25 gig block (got it in jan). when its done i might go back to giganews.
