Next (4G) Generation iPod's!! out this week... (price drop)

Anyone know the deal about this - from the apple website - "Sync and charge via included FireWire or USB 2.0 cables ". Does this mean that if you are running a PC you will no longer need that USB + Fire Wire cable? Also, the specs on the 40 gig mention an included carrying case while the page with the pricing does not. Just wondering if anyone knew for sure about either of those...thanks guys.

I picked up a 2G 10GB iPod for $200 from Target when they were being cleared out for the 3Gs, but 2500 songs isn't enough and I've been hitting a ceiling. Too bad we'll never get a chance to use a 20% off coupon at Dell to score 40GB for $320.

This is exactly what I am torn over right now. However, seeing as how the new 20 gig does not come with the dock or carrying case, I'm pretty much sold on the 40 gig one.

i dont think the 40's come with the case
i think I am going with a 20 and a case

if the 40's had a case it would be a much tougher decision since I don't really care about the dock

and i want it to be as slim as it can be the 20G is .12 inches slimmer seems like a lot to me

Student discount brings the 40G down to 370.... i'm so in. Time to sell my Creative Zen NX 30GB model. I just didn't purchase an ipod at first because they were a bit pricey. Now they seem quite doable.

yeah, bbkat, all my friends that own a ipod said that also. it might cost some extra $ for the replacement place, but its well worth it, when u accidnetly drop it.. or even maybe when your buttons just get sticky after a few months, they'll change it for you.

To me, my co-worker's 3g 40 feels much bulkier than my 3g 20. I'm glad I've got the 20.

NICE....i have a 2yr replacement plan from Best Buy on my 3G 15G ipod. Will wait for couple of more months till BB runs out of all 3G models and will then take my in. A FREE upgrade to 4G 20GB one at that time (well, $30 that i paid for my 2yr replacement) and will then again get the 2yr replacement on my 4G (if its not already included).

You should get these replacement plans on this high end small electronics...i have dropped my ipod couple of times (although it was in its protective iskin case) and never worried since i knew my replacement plan covered it. Too bad, it still works and there still isnt a scratch on my ipod ... gotta think of a way to use that 2yr replacement plan....my battery life is dieing though....maybe in the next couple of months, it will die more and then i will have a valid reason.

It'd be great if the battery life claim turns out to be true, but it's too bad the 4g isn't as attractive as the 3g (this is subjective, of course). I don't like the grey/off-white wheel at all; it breaks up the look. It should've been white like the mini's wheel.

i concur....but white on white wont look good....mini's are colorful, thats why they have a white wheel.

Apple needs to put out a black ipod...that would really look hot.

well, I've been tormenting myself all day about whether to send my 20gig 3g that I bought last week back and get a 4g or to just keep the 3g. I actually kinda like the touch buttons and the case, the remote and the dock I an do without, but they are kinda convenient, the dock more so than the remote. But I love the case that it comes with. I'm torn, not sure what to do...

I don't have an iPod, but all of my music comes from CDs that I have ripped to my computer and sotred in FLAC format. Whenever I want to put songs on my portable player (either my RioVolt or Nomad II) I just make a playlist in Winamp and use an MP3 output plugin to convert the FLAC files to MP3.
